This is a really great game. But, if you have the money, buy ArmA2 Combined Operations. But if you can only afford this game, buy it. It is the best game I've seen. I personally think its better than any CoD game I've ever played. I love it because it is realistic. Buy this game!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been playing this along with the expansions for the last few years on and off. It's incredibly engrossing and there is quite a feeling of accomplishment when you finally complete the missions. It's got more key commands than you'll probably use, but just about everything you need is covered. Looks good graphically, considering it's age. A top game.

I love this game and I played it about 6 months then I stopped playing it for a while..

This game needs the ragdoll feature so the death be more realistic

over all I played online more than offline .. it's awesome

ArmA (Armed Assault) Operation Arrowhead is a military simulator. It is pretty fun to play, you can go singleplayer and play the Campaign, or choose a Scenario to play. There is also a option to make your own missions by using the in game Mission Editor. It's hard to use, but with some practice you'll be able to create your own desired missions. You can play your own created missions with your friends online or alone on Singleplayer. You can download missions though in case of creating them all by yourself and play them online/alone.

The Multiplayer option in the game is really fun, there're a lot of servers you can choose to play. All servers have a mission you can play, it's really realistic and a lot of teamwork. If you can't find a good server for teamwork and such, you can join a clan and roll with them.

Getting bored of the game itself? Download a mod like DayZ, a zombie mod for Arma 2: OA. It's free if you already have Arma 2 OA.

For the price it is really worth to buy the game!

Greetings,

As the Arma 2 and Arma:Oa both are very good military games but What takes this game to new level is the mod community DayZ Mod gives this game great value and should be considered to try if you are into zombie survival gaming in Mp mode.

ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead, great!

This game is great when it is accompanied with ARMA2, since you need both to run most mods. Get this as a standalone if you already have ARMA2, since Combined operations gives you an extra copy of ARMA2 then. I use this in Combination with arma2 to run DayZ.

Must buy to play Day Z!

DLC adds a bunch of great stuff to an already great game. Also this is a must buy if you are planning on playing Day Z.

Excellent game overall! So many functions for multiplayer. The only downfall IS BattlEye. You can and will get banned if a hacker executes a command on you. They don't discern between the differences in such. If a hacker teleports you, it shows you as being teleported. All around, amazing game aside from BattlEye now.

ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead is a standalone add-on to the ArmA universe. If you already own ArmA 2 the two will combine into Combined Operations giving the best of both worlds. With a lengthy campaign available fully playable as co-op this will certainly keep anyone interested in military simulations engaged for a long time. With the included Mission Editor you can create your own scenarios and with full mod support there's more than enough to keep you tinkering. Fantastic graphics (albeit quiet demanding on hardware) and immersive sound the only thing you'll wish for is smell-o-vision. Highly recommended!

Finally i have arma. Now i can play dayz and hopefully ill survive more than 50MIns. But who knows. And this game is great for coop with friends or such. On dayz grouping with people you know is best. And this is already patched to 1.59 So al you have to do is just install 1.60 and then 1.60 to 1.62

Bohemia does it again! With this standalone expansion Bohemia has expanded the massive battlefields of the Arma2 series. New units and new amazing campaigns awaits you. But as with all simulations it takes time to master it and there are some drawbacks in the design. The A.I can be really stupid but sometimes really smart.

Where this simulator shines is in the coop arena. Team up with your friends and enjoy war as close as it gets from the comfort of your chair.

This is a very good game. It is not a shooter for the action crowd. The game has realistic ballistics, wounding, and death. Expect to often be killed by an enemy you never saw. Single player requires learning not only how to fight effectively on your own, but also how to take command of a unit of troops. Instead of set-piece scenarios, this game mostly runs in a sandbox format. The various ways of winning most battles are limited only by your imagination. There are some issues with objectives not being clearly stated. It is easy to get lost in such an open-ended game world. Multiplayer has a steep learning curve. Cooperation and communication with the other players is key. If you aren't cooperative, good luck even getting a ride to the battlefield, which can be quite a distance from where you spawn.

If you are interested in a realistic shooter with realistic equipment, I heartily recommend this game.

This game could have been the best military game out there, but it always would either lag me out of a server or just have terrible fps. When it is running fine it is a great simulation that keeps you on the edge of your seat, but that is almost never. Like most people, I bought this for mods like DayZ and ACE. ARMA is great for those mods, but don't play it if you get OCD about fps drops.

Only really an essential buy for the community and modding aspect, other than that a fairly average expansion to the awesome base game - but still a necessary by because of the mods and maps.

I have played ARMA II Free for a while and that was a lot of fun. Then I decided with my squad that we would buy ARMA II Operation Arrowhead. I did not expect that it would be so much more fun. It has so many features, if you have ARMA II then it makes ARMA automatically Combined Operations. And then you can make epic missions with OA stuff in Chernarus or something like that.

The Single Player in Operation Arrowhead is also very nice. It kind of gives you the feeling you actually are a soldier. And the radio talk, tactics and sounds make it all very realistic.

So far this game has no negative aspects except for the fact that my video settings changed a few times in the beginning so I had to change them manually.

Thank you Bohemia Interactive for creating this epic game!

i bought this game like many others to play the very popular Day-Z mod, and i have to say that it is one hell of a game. singleplayer-wise, the campaign is very good and intense compared to most generic fps', and the multiplayer is so much fun if you are patient when joining servers and playing it. overall, this has quickly become a favourite of mine and i am glad to have bought it.

The only problem thus far is that the serial key did not work, but if you contact the developers (Bi-Studio), they will supply a fix the day after and are ever so helpful.

This is a great game if you like slower paced military sims. It has a pretty solid modding community, a good host of online servers with people at all times, and a lot of good single player content (but it can be buggy at times.) It is also a bit demanding, so make sure you have a strong rig before considering buying this and running it.

ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead review

By Jenssan posted 2nd June 2012

This game is an unpolished gem. It's main strenght is it's immersive atmosphere and realism, if you are looking for a first person combat simulator with a huge mod comunity this game delivers more then you could even hope for. Sadly some of the mechanics are clunky and the gameplay itself really isn't all that interesting, deep or enjoyable. So if you are a consumer looking for a realistic fps that's just fun to pick up and play for a couple of hours every now and then I'd recomend that you stick to something like the battlefield series.

What a game! ARMA2:OA is maybe the best tactical shooter ever. A complete tutorial, many single missions, 2 campaigns, very good MP system (you can host as a server), scanario editor, accurate weapons, vehicles. Not bad AI (here is one medium-weak point to get perfected). And for 10 coins it's THE bargain.

BEST SIM I'VE PLAYED YET. It's really awesome how you're able to edit your own missions and play on them with AI's, rather multiplayer is just a mess. BUT IDC! I create my own missions, play them very long and create a big war for myself!

ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead review

By dupre76 posted 4th April 2012

Great expansion to the best military simulator there is. The single player campaign is great, but multiplayer is where the most fun is (Coop is great as everyone says, but a good PvP server can really be the best fun).

The pace of the game, especially depending on your play style, requires some getting used to for those who are new to this series. Be warned that some of the gameplay features that are realistic may at first seem odd or annoying to long time players of other FPS games, where everything happening in the game world seems to be highly annotated to provide a false sense of situation awareness to the player.

Not in the real world and not in this game: get used to getting killed without ever finding out exactly where you got shot from. One shot kills and you need to be very careful to work with team-mates, moving quickly between cover and developing your senses to be perceptive to minor details in your surroundings.

Not for aspiring Rambos, with some patience you will find it far deeper and more engaging than any other FPS game out there.

Great game, but the firm needs to standardize the graphics. No card seems good enough to make the game run smoothly. It's like playing the real thing though, feature for feature.

ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead review

By SiC posted 19th October 2011

An excellent game, and truely the last hope for the tactical realism genre.

The fact that after all this time Bohemia still has not caved in to the mainstream horde and made the game 'more accessable' (read: dumbed down so it's not so hard for the kiddies) alone deserves the full 5 stars.

Thankfully, the game is up to par with that rating as well. It is a stand-alone expansion for ArmA 2 but has so much content and additional features crammed inside it is fully worthy of being a stand alone game.

The game has a single player campaign as well as several single missions, but the heart and soul of ArmA has always lain with the multiplayer, co-op particularly.

The limits for teamplay in this game are virtually non-existant, it is by far the best co-op game i have ever played. Ofcourse, multiplayer is hard to review.

You'll need a good clan or community to get the most out of it. Even so, the mission editor makes up for a whole lot of playtime and there are plenty of single player missions for download as well.

If you love tactical shooters, you simply cannot miss out on this one.

The engine is a bit of a hog and the game can make every single computer cry tears of frustration in certain scenarios, but then again: it's a sandbox game where anything is possible.

500 vs 500 AI in open battle is perfectly possible so long as your pc does not burn down trying to handle all the processes required for that scenario.

5 out of 5, well worth it.

The graphics are somewhat improved.

Kaidane has it. This is an immersive, amazing experience, full of skilled, patient and nice people on Multiplayer. Voice acting could be better, but that pales in comparison to the rest of the game. Come on- Who wouldnt want to provide air support in an A-10.

In CoD you call in an airstrike.

In ArmA 2, you call a friend.

This addition improves on the earlier ARMA 2. The performance is certainlt better, though I guess you'd expect the engine to have been tweaked a bit.

As usual there is so much depth to this title and whilst it clearly is not a game for everyone, for those who do enjoy this more simulated type of warfare, it's another peach. The ARMA series continues to feed the hunger of those who like real depth.

By rtrahan3 posted 30th May 2011

Excellent game. Well, not really a game, a simulator. If you are looking to run around and blow stuff up, this is not the game. If you want tactics and realism, this is it.

ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead review

By Sharkey14 posted 4th April 2011

This expansion expands on the already amazing ARMA forumula to make a more fun and intense game. It both looks and runs better than the original and the desert enviroment is much more intresting to roam than the woods from ARMA 2. The only real issue is the worse voice acting for your character but its minor among the rest of the awsome.

ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead review

By mugwump posted 25th December 2010

Excellent addition to the series.

Operation Arrowhead keeps the same core gameplay as Arma2 but the missions are much more refined. They play out in a much better fashion than those from ArmA or ArmA 2, seem better written, and have much more going on in each one.

You still have the usual shortcomings of the ArmA series. The voice acting is passible at best, painful at worst. The interface is still rather cumbersome, but with a game that offers such depth of play, I honestly can't see how they can really improve on it much without sacrificing a lot of options (perhaps a context sensitive radial menu might work.)

TrackIR support for this game is stellar! I love being able to lean around corners, scan the horizon as I move from cover to cover (still hardly ever manage to see the bad guys before I get zapped though...), and be able to look around virtual helo and plane cockpits as I would in a flight sim.

The game runs well with high settings on my middling PC and I personally think it looks great. I'd rather have a huge draw distance and sacrifice a few polygons in a rifle model than have every single bolt rendered yet not be able to see more than 100 metres.

Great game made even better by a very active modding community.

ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead review

By LordOfFleet posted 15th December 2010

A really good simulator when it comes to getting into depth of being a soldier. Few glitches and the high system requirements can be a burden though. One of the first First Person Shooters that actually lets me fly jets, planes, helicoptors, drive tanks, jeeps, motorcycles, etc.

I did however find myself getting bored with the campaign when i ran into conflicts with the many controls needed to play especially ones involving flying helicoptors and leading a convoy. You dont get to control everything but rather tell others what to do and sometimes putting what you think into action on a video game isnt always the easiest thing, especially when your men and yourself are getting shot at. Think i might stick to the simple CoD where things are over simplified

The best feature about OA is that it can be run simultaneously with ArmA 2 as Combined Arms. So for example you can use the units, weapons etc from OA and play on the ArmA 2 island (Chernarus) or the other way around.

The game runs a lot smoother as well compared to ArmA 2 and the AI has been improved. I like the new Afghanistan alike map/theme as well.

A must buy for ArmA2 fans.

ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead review

By Cuthach posted 5th September 2010

Though not as in-depth as ArmA 2, this expansion brings enough to the table to justify it for any truly hardcore fan.

The desert environment is a bit monotonous, a bit too much sand and too little filling, and if you aren't buying both ArmA 2 and ArmA 2:OA together in the Combined Operations pack, you should wait to buy it when the price dip.

Operation Arrowhead just builds on what Arma does best: Intense, surprisingly fast paced tactical combat. The campaign is more 'action packed' with more combat and less tedious sections of travel, but it still retains the very realistic and tactical feel of Arma. The new maps are more focused, with less pointless empty space, meaning the game is even better online.

If you liked Arma or Arma 2, then you should really consider this.

This expansion brings much new content to the most realistic (and fun) military simulator to date. It gives us several new maps, new weapons and vehicles but the most anticipated feature is perhaps the infra-red vision system. A great modding community makes this even greater as the biggest mod (ACE2) has stated that they will now support Arrowhead.
