In a not too distant future, the rapid advancement of technology has allowed man's common dream of colonizing distant planets become reality. With need of further natural resources and living space, the human race rapidly expands. Unprepared for the scale of development, the Federation, overseer for the process of colonizing the universe, limit the selling of 'terra-forming' permits. Outraged by the decision, powerful mega corporations begin holding an authoritarian rule on their very own "private" planets. The full autonomy of these new worlds soon creates a safe haven for criminal activity and bringing down the Federation is their number one priority.

For a little more than 12 months the Federation's special division has led an investigation into the ever more frequent case of government officers being confronted by criminals, commonly found under the influence of an as yet unknown stimulant. Based of synthetic enzymes, the substance causes the fearless, aggressive, trigger-happy and pain resistant hitmen to wreak havoc, and the problem is now spreading.

Created with the purpose of ridding the planetary system of global hazards and crisis situations endangering the Federation's stability, the elite strike unit Chrome Specforce has finally caught a break in the investigation.

Armed with the latest military technology in combat, designed with Special Forces in mind, the SpecForce field agents equip themselves with SPA4 Power Armour, the main element of a SpecForce field agent's operational equipment and vital to mission success. Be it assassination, espionage, infiltration or sabotage, the armours systems enhance the efficiency of tactical operations conducted in enemy territory.

Dispatched to the planetary system of Estrella to collect evidence, it quickly becomes clear that a seemingly simple task leads to an intrigue on a much grander scale...

Chrome Specforce review

By googoogjoob posted 27th December 2011

A dull, inferior prequel to Chrome. The base gameplay is all the same and you play the same character (only this time around he's silent- apparently they couldn't get Jon St John again), but the game holds your hand at all times- giving you new objectives constantly and putting little markers on your map so you know exactly where to go. This isn't necessarily a bad thing on its own, but the game world has lots of relatively open spaces (like in Chrome itself) that go unused, which is sad.

Worth it if you get this game on sale I guess, but otherwise it's best to stick with Chrome.

Also worth noting: the game comes with extremely irritating Starforce DRM that insists on getting into your system then doesn't leave when you uninstall the game. Chrome doesn't have this, and I have no idea why the prequel does. But it does.

Poorly Made

This game felt poorly made and was supremely disappointing. While I was not expecting anything amazing at the price I bought it for, it seemed to me that the game was thrown together by a group of college kids working on their senior project.

The movement in the game is more cumbersome than Section 8 and it seems you are carrying 200lbs of armor at all times. On top of that, the story does not flow and there are long moments of boredom while you wait for the AI to move on to the next scene.

All in all, this game does nothing to draw you in. If you are just looking for an excuse to shoot at very poor AI, go ahead and buy this game.

Chrome Specforce is a first person shooter which sees you play as Logan a Federal Special Forces operative who is investigating a secert drug lab on a corprate panet.. The game is prequel to Chrome though this doesn't have much impact on the game.

Graphically the game is okay given that it is an older game. Efects are sparse and options are limited meaning that the game will run okay on an older computer. The art design is average, with most of emeny figures looking like generic armoured space marines.

Sound is average. The music is not that noticable and therefore inoffeneive. Sound effects are better with gunfire, in paricualar a heavy rifle, sounding quite good.

The plot is fairly generic, evil corporate invents super soldier drug, Goverement agents and plucky local resistence try and stop them. There are no surprises and no real motivatinon given.

Gameplay is fairly standard for a first person shooter, thought there is an element of inertia involved with running and turning. This can take a while to get used to. The game gives you a power armour suit which comes with abilites. The Abilites are bullet time, a shield, speed and cloak. Only the bullet time and the shield are actually worth anything as speed doesn't appear to increase that much and cloak doesn't appear to fool enemies at all. There are number of different weapons that you can carry in you invetory, but for the most part the assualt rifle will be the weapon most often used. The game also includes a hacking mini-game, a simple tile memory game, though it can get harder. It's nnoyiny but fairly easy.

One thing is that enemy will always seem to hit you when it opens fire, sometimes shoting through objects or hitting with the gun is ostensibly pointed in another direction. This copled with the enemies abiltiy to blend into the sceneary can make it quite hard to see where you are being shot at sime time and the screen flashes are not much use either.

Overall its medicore and a little short with only ten missions.
