Sid Meier's Civilization V Gold Edition review

By godemperor posted 7th March

For the first time, Civilization fans can play on hexagrams rather than squares. For fans of strategy games this is a big improvement, as it forces players to take terrain into account. Terrain will really affect combat and one can't stack units anymore. For those of us who played back in the early days, remember the frustration of building an army and then watching it all disappear because the top units lost defensive combat?

I love the improved cost system for running an empire. One of my biggest problems with Civilization III was the exorbitant costs of maintaining a large empire. Not because it was expensive, but because all those costs went to some arbitrary "corruption."

This game series continues to be my favorite and I cannot wait to see what further improvements will be made to it over the coming years.
