Civilization V: Double Civilization and Scenario Pack: Spain and Inca

Rating: 4.3 (167 votes cast)

This product requires Sid Meier's Civilization V to play.

The year is 1492. To the courts of England, France, and Spain come intrepid explorers, anxious to voyage across the Atlantic in search of a western route to China and the Indies. Will they found a new trade route and uncover untold riches from the Asian shores? Or will they perhaps run aground on undiscovered lands along their way? Will native peoples be receptive to the knowledge and trade prospects presented to them, or will they fight against the invaders of their homeland? What riches, fame, and opportunities await those who brave the unknown waters? What path will you choose? Who will prevail in the struggle for supremacy over this New World?

Spain – Isabella I was the Queen of Castile and Leon for 30 years, and with her husband Ferdinand, laid the groundwork for the consolidation of Spain. For her role in the Spanish unification, patronage of Columbus' voyages to America, and ending of the Reconquista (Recapturing) of the Iberian Peninsula, Isabella is regarded as one of the most beloved and important monarchs in the Spanish crown.

Inca – Pachacuti was the ninth ruler of the Kingdom of Cusco, who during his reign expanded the tiny kingdom into an expansive empire - Tawantinsuyu. Pachacuti's Incan Empire stretched from modern-day Chile to Ecuador, including most of Peru, Bolivia, and northern Argentina, and laid the foundation for an even larger Incan Empire to come.

Civilization V: Double Civilization and Scenario Pack: Spain and Inca review

It's decent DLC for Civilization V. I often play with Spain so this is my favorite DLC. You get two civs to play with (Spain and Inca) and also two scenarios especially made for each of new civs. At lauch Civilization V had too few civs to play with and this Double Civilization and Scenario Pack is a good way to expand the game.

And play for one more turn...and one more...and more...

Another soild DLC for Civ 5, Both civs hold their own and have some intresting and useful abilities and units. The Inca racial bonus is extremly useful for expanding and invading quickly over hill terrain, allowing them stage sieges and retreat quickly of needed. The Slinger is a great scout and attacker, he can move quicker than archers and easily pull of "hit and run" type attcks.

Spains racial isn't that good as it relys on being near natural wonders which is entirely random. The conquistador is great as its basicly an armed settler which can hold its own in combat and still create new cities

4/5

This DLC adds two nice civs; Spain and the Inca. Both are pretty solid while playing them, but controlled by the AI, they usually both score very low. As the Inca, you can easily get good map control early with the mobility of the slingers. All in all a DLC worth picking up.

Interesting little expansion pack the conquistador is a settler with combat abilities whilst the terico is a stronger musket man with a bonus against mounted units good if your adversaries rely on such units like the lancer. The Slinger although evenly matched with the archer has a speed promotion good for the hit run type of attacks. overall spain is more suited to branching out and exploring the world while the incans are more suited to warfare on rough terrian

Spain is great for explorers.

You get bonuses for finding natural wonders.

The Conquistador is a decent unit anyway, but it's also a settler that doesn't need an escort.

The Incas are more map dependant.

They do very well in hilly terrain, but are at a disadvantage on the flat.

It would seem that the criteria for inclusion as a playable civ in Civilisation V is political sateability, such as in the case of Songhai and Siam, and imperial prowess, such as in the case of Great Britain/England or Russia. If not for the former, Spain would have been included long ago in this game over some of the minor playable nations, for the Spanish Empire is and was undeniably the second most influencial Empire in human history, behind HM Queen Victoria's British.

If one is to play a game of Civilisation in the interests of history and nationalism, then this DLC is a must. A game with Great Britain, France, Germany and Russia cannot be truly immersive or enjoyable without Spain, the at times formidable enemy of three of the four greatest European powers.

And of course, what is Spain without its ties to the New World. The inclusion of the Incan Empire with this DLC makes this purchase even more worthwhile. If you are to play as Spain, then one cannot go wrong in conquering the Aztecs and the Incas once again. Or in any game you might wish to play in the New World, the Inca are a valuable part to that gameplay, filling the gap left by the empty South America.
