Play with 4 upgradeable armor types: Jetpack, Battle, Tactical, and Trooper. In addition, the game also features a six player Survival mode that pits a human squad against a nonstop onslaught of the largest enemies the aliens have to offer. Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon review

By maceman posted 13th November 2012

This game is an action packed kill-fest. Despite the technical issues which I will go into further in detail, the game is surprisingly fun, albeit a little frustrating at times. First and foremost, the controls are a little jenky. Plain and simple. They do not always respond the way you want to, however, they are not terrible. The teammate A.I. is horrible. In a game where you are getting swamped left and right literally hundreds, if not more, enemies at once, your teammates ability to hold their own is very important... and the A.I. completely drops the ball. They are inaccurate, will just stand there soaking up damage and dying a quick death and also, for some reason, seem to have an inability to revive you if you fall in battle. This is especially problematic in major boss battles where you are getting swamped with 2 or more boss enemies and the usual barrage of hundreds of normal enemies and when there are few wide spread checkpoints in the level.

All this being said however, the game is unusually fun and entertaining despite these issues. There is something gratifying each time you make an enemy go splat and a great sense of accomplishment when you do actually complete a level. The charterer leveling system is fulfilling as well. Each tier unlocks new weapons, deployables and upgrades, which in turn makes playing single player more enjoyable and less frustrating. The game really shines in co-op mode however and makes most of the technical issues much more bearable. The story is really not anything that special. It is pretty much just an excuse to blow away tons of abnormally large insects, arachnids and aliens... which is just fine as long as you know what you are getting into.

Final verdict: Despite the technical flaws the game is a fun kill fest that is worth the minimal money it costs.

Live out your bug killing fantasy with this game. While pretty much a straight port of the console game, if you like games where you simply shoot waves upon waves of enemies, then give this game a chance.

If you have some friends to play co-op with and like mindless fun, this game is a must buy. All tho fairly repetitive Earth Defense Force provides a ton of fun for killing over sized bugs and robots. The only downfall is that it's fairly short but because the way its structured with the leveling and class system it has a lot of replay value.

Absolute blast of a game. Definitively worth whatever you can get it for, especially if you get a friend or two interested in the game as well. While it does lack the cheesiness of its predecessor, it retains much of what made it fun, such as the gameplay.

It's fun, fast, and filled with enemies. The addition of Online Co-op is nice, but I would have liked to see some more variety in it.

The lack of some PC specific options isn't enough to keep this from being a must buy for any gamer that is looking to have sheer fun, and not really looking for an advanced plot or deep characters, as those are non-existent in this game.

Overall, it's a pretty solid title, with very minor flaws; if you know what you're getting into. Recommended.
