A little dated, and easily outmatched by newer fighting games, GGI still has some potential to entertain and enrapture you. Don't count on it though, unless you consider yourself a hardcore fan of the series.

Guilty Gear Isuka review

Guilty Gear Isuka is a failed attempt at improving an already solid gaming series. It has all the right characters, tons of style and amazing imagery, and a fast-paced fighting engine unlike anything ever seen in a 2D fighter. However, the uninspired arcade and customization modes leave little to be liked, with only a decent beat’em up minigame to salvage them. Being able to control up to four characters at once may sound good on paper, but actually applying them to Guilty Gear’s one-on-one style of gameplay is downright awful. It might suffice as a party game, but I doubt that fighting game fanatics and fans of the series will appreciate having such a great gaming series reduced into this kind of garbled mess. In the meantime, we can only pray that the next rendition of the Guilty Gear series will prove far superior to this unsatisfying game.

My favorite fighting game franchise after KOF! Features really nicely crafted pixels, divine controls, interesting characters, and complex gameplay.

Now I have really enjoyed the Guilty Gear series a lot over the years from the very first PS1 title (Guilty Gear) through the many different variations of #X2. This however is a little different and spins off the series by introducing up to four player play.

Unfortunatly it ruins the whole thing a little through several different issues, the first is that the screen sizing is still the same. While that sounds like an odd issue, Guilty Gear #X2 was a pretty chaotic game by itself, throw in two extra players and suddenly the screen can become cluttered up and confusing very fast.

The other big issue is the lack of any auto-lock. Instead of characters autolocking to face the nearest opponent, you instead have to manually flip characters around. This manages to break up the fight and can really just make the confusing gameplay even more so.

One last issue is the lack of modes, there isnt really that much to do in the game. Theres no online play thanks to this being a Ps2 straight port and theres little bonus material to look through.

That said, the fighting is still fun at times and can be a real thrill... Though the only people who would probably enjoy it all would be more long-time Guilty Gear fans.

Guilty Gear Isuka is starting to see it's age. This is a PS2 era fighting game and with all of the new fighting games that have been being pushed out it's not all that appealing. At this low price point if you are a Guilty Gear you probably want this, if not it is probably negligible.

Not a revolution in fighting game, but a decent game if you have the skills to play it.

The game lacks in story and has no multiplayer, so it's ok only for single fun when you have nothing else better to do.

If you're looking for a good fighting game for your PC, look no further, here comes Guilty Gear Isuka!

The port is a bit clunky at times, but it's totally acceptable because the game itself is very enjoyable, and if you're a fighting games fan, you'll be totally content with it.

Nice game, but it's really bad that the Instant Kill is missing, it's like removing the "fatalities" from mortal kombat. Excepted this detail, this is a good guilty gear, with nice graphics and a good gameplay (except for the side switch thing, this is really annoying sometimes)

this is one of those rare games that you can watch game play of and honestly decide if your interested in a couple minutes. for people who are a fan of older 2d fighting games this will be easy to get into, and for the price its worth the risk of purchase if your remotely interested in game play at all in my opinion.

Guilty Gear Isuka: A good oldie

UUMMM! Guilty Gear. What to say about this game. Good Good Good! This game make you go back to the debut of one of the best known Japanese 2D Fighting Game. The commands are laggy...Yes! The grafics are kinda strange sometimes...Yes! But the most important thing, there are a lot of characters, lot of combos and nice character animations, making this game one of the greatest 2D fighting game of his time.

It's nice to see some arcade fighters on the PC as they seem almost non existent. This isn't the best attempt at an arcade fighter and probably one of the worse from the Guilty Gear series, but it's still worth a play through. They've added quite a few features since the previous Guilty Gear and also removed a few things such as the instant kill moves.

All in all, if the game is 75% off and you want to give it a shot, there is nothing to lose. I wouldn't pay full price or even 50% off though.

It has its problems like, a command list that does a bad job of explain which buttons to push. But overall its a really fun game with wacky characters and great combos. Its fast paced and really challenging. It has a good soundtrack, with good Japanese voice acting. The animation looks great and the controls feels fluid when you use Dualshock 3 controller. I think that the biggest fault, the game has is that it don't have on line multiplayer (only local) and i think that it seriously hurts the longevity of the game. Overall its a good fighting game, that is well worth your time and especially at a such a low price tag.

A fairly balanced Japanese beat-um-up side scrolling game with limited options. Recommended you rebind the keys or get a arcade joystick pad. Port from what looks like a ps2, otherwise a great game.

A solid and fun fighting game

By Jediloop posted 3rd April

Oh my... This brings back memories. Somewhere back in time, in a long forgotten past, fighting games were one of the most popular genres everywhere - arcade, PCs and consoles. Titles like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter were always considered as must-buys, as they provided countless hours of local multiplayer goodnes. It's really hard to tell now how much time I've wasted on fighting games overall. It was certainly A LOT.

Nowadays fighting games are somewhat obscure. Now, quality games in the genre are a rare sight. Fortunately new and fresh franchises have appeared, and Guilty Gear is one of them.

Guilty Gear Isuka is the latest iteration of the series that was released on PCs. It's virtually a sequel to Guilty Gear XX released in 2002. And it's good. Really good. It has everything that a fighting game should have - and more! For me the icing in the cake is in 4 player battles (be it 2 vs. 2 or even 3 vs. 1), which are full of fast-paced, chaotic action.

In the end Guilty Gear Isuka does everything good. It's worth its price for everyone that likes fighting games.

Isuka isn't as bad an idea as it seems at first glance, but at first glance, it seems like a really bad idea. While you can adjust to some of its oddities, they don't ever make objective sense, and only the 2-on-2 tag battles are worth the time. Free-for-all matches are a near-total train wreck, and there's not enough new content to justify 1-on-1 fights with this irrational control scheme. Publisher Sammy should have saved the new backgrounds and soundtrack (which both totally rock) to feature in a better game.

Having grown in the arcades with games like Street Fighter 2, I have a thing for 2D fighting games. In Guilty Gear Isuka you'll find a decent fighting game, nicely animated and fun. But take notice that it has no elaborate story mode or online mode, because GGI may not be your game.

Guilty Gear Isuka review

By IncognitoMosquito posted 28th March

Guilty Gear Isuka is a fairly standard beat-em-up game... except that it's meant to be played by 4 players at once instead of 2. The characters are pretty balanced, the gameplay is good, but with 4 players on the screen at once, the game is a bit too chaotic. Overall it's fun if you like the genre, but if you don't, this one probably won't be a good place to start.

Guilty Gear Isuka review

By 85251025 posted 26th March

n Guilty Gear Isuka each character starts out with two souls. Each soul fills up your life bar completely and you fight until all of the opponent's souls are gone. Underneath the life meter is your guard meter, after so many blocks it runs out and leaves your vulnerable for a few seconds. There is also a tension gauge, which lets you use a number of useful moves that are familiar to the Guilty Gear series such as the Fortress Defense, Roman Cancels and Dead Angle attacks. At a quick glance it doesn't look like there isn't much to differentiate Guilty Gear Isuka from say Street Fighter 3: Third Strike or SNK vs. Capcom Chaos. Although, if you do play this game and give it a fair chance you will see that much like Tekken, Guilty Gear Isuka has much to master.

Guilty Gear Isuka review

By elbersame posted 26th March

As expected, Isuka continues Guilty Gear's tradition of solid visuals. The anime-inspired super soldiers all look great, mostly identical to past Guilty Gear games. The fighting areas are interesting, bright and colorful without too many moving parts to distract you from the action. The audio rocks out with the typical upbeat selections of metal tracks, which fits the insane action.

For fans of the series, Guilty Gear Isuka is simply another good chapter in their favorite book. While the multiplayer fighting system is flawed, the solid gameplay is largely unchanged and the extra modes add a nice dash of variety. Guilty Gear Isuka won't necessarily win any new fans, but it manages to offer 2D fighting groupies a pretty good match.

Pretty Decent Beat Em Up

By ketersephirot posted 24th March

Not the best game of the series, but Guilty Gear Isuka it's a pretty decent Beat Em Up.

This game is designed to play in 4 players instead of the usual 1 vs 1 match, so a lot of characther was rebalanced.

Since there aren't many game of this genre on PC, if you are a fan of fighting game it's a nice game to play with.

Remember that a gamepad or even better, an arcade stick is a must to play this game!

Guilty Gear Isuka review

By Excuritas posted 23rd March

Guilty Gear Isuka marks the first time in the series' history that players will be able to participate in four-person fighting. Whether gamers decide to battle it out two-on-two style or team up for four-player co-op against the computer, it adds an all-new dynamic to the series. The game also lets you customize your character by providing the opportunity to buy new moves and combos and change costumes via a point system. It also introduces three new playable characters for a grand total of 23. Other new improvements include a side-scrolling action game mode, some brand new fighting arenas, and a re-tooled survival mode. The storyline takes a much more prominent role this time around too, with several surprise revelations about new and existing characters.

If you were looking for a fighting game, I'd say this is somewhat average at best.

You've got the same excellent sprite work and music from Arc Systems along with the gameplay, however the addition of 2 extra players in the playing field seems somewhat tacked on and clunky.

It's cheap though, so if you're curious it wouldn't hurt to try out.

Guilty Gear Isuka review

By Seingreed posted 6th August 2012

Guilty Gear games can be pretty frantic with just two people, but double the number of fighters on screen and you're left with a title that's rarely less than chaotic. Having to keep track of which way you're facing as well as switching planes adds to the confusion, which unfortunately detracts from the game. The Final Fight style Boost Mode is another concept that's let down by poorly realised controls, though being able to customise your own fighter by collecting points gives you plenty of reason to persevere.

If you can wrap your head around the controls you'll have a good time. If not then at least you'll get a great soundtrack out of the deal.

A good 2D fighting game for the PC. Much better if you use a controller to play it, otherwise you're gonna have a rough time. But the graphics are great and the gameplay is fast and solid.

I support developers that support PC with their ports =)

By Carnival73 posted 22nd May 2012

GamersGate happens to be the only place that I've seen this version of Guity Gear. "The Midnight Carnival" (previous game in the series) can be found on GOG and BlazBlue Calamity Trigger can still be purchased boxed from some retailers.

Unfortunately ARC stopped releasing their fighting series to PC with the latest BlazBlue but I've made sure to run back and buy up all of these previous titles in thanks for making them available.

If you haven't played the Gear fighting series now is the time to try it out. Even if you don't have the time to learn or master the excessively complex controls the game is a blast on easy and you'll have access to some of the most endearingly strange and freaky cartoon characters and animations.

Guilty Gear Isuka is great, pc controls can be a bit confusing

By imcrazy posted 2nd January 2012

Guilty Gear is a great fighting franchise. Isuka plays well on the pc, however the keyboard controls have a strange default placement. You can however customize the layout or simply hook up a controller to play. All in all the game functions well, but I recommend using a gamepad/joystick.

Guilty Gear Isuka is the 2nd best option for PC fighters

By TapSkill posted 1st December 2011

The only PC fighting game I can say surpasses this one is Street Fighter IV, and Isuka still beats it for one reason: 4-player combat. 4 players can fight, all at once, 1-on-1. The characters left on each team then fight each other. It is a pretty simple system, so I am surprised more fighters do not have something similar.

PC controls are decent, but you will have to make a lot of adjustments if you use a Xbox 360 controller. On such a controller, it maps the start button to the right joystick, and the reset button ("select" button) as left joystick. It also sets the 'a' button to 'b' and so on, and you cannot exit the game using the controller, so you will still need to use the keyboard for some actions. Overall, it is not too bad, but you will want to change the default keys.

A fun and zaney brawler. If you're a fan of the previous games, you should already own this. If you've never even heard of them then this is definitely a good starting point. The characters are full of, for lack of a better term, character and that alone is worth the rediculously low price.

As a fan of the guilty gear fighting game, this game was a unique experience. Firstly the controls were quite unfamiliar to me, but as I kept playing more and more and progress deeper into the game, I find it quite enjoyable as a fighting/beat-em up type game. If you are a fan of guilty gear or just like anime fantasy action type games in general, be sure to add this to your list of games to play.

Greatest Gear

By grandgodslayer posted 11th August 2011

There are plenty of fighting games out there and near the top of my list are the Guilty Gear games. ISUKA is unlike the other entries in the series. This game supports more fights to fight simultaneously instead of the normal 1 vs. 1. Also this game requires you to change the direction you are facing manually.

so why is Guilty Gear near the top of my fight games list? The characters are mostly all awesome, the fighting is lightning fast, the controls are nearly perfect, and in ISUKA you can customize the colors of your characters. Also ISUKA has a side-scrolling beat'em up story mode of sorts that supports co-op.

In conclusion, this game is awesome.

Guilty Gear Isuka review

By Tomosh posted 5th August 2011

Guilty Gear Isuka is a game from a well known and respected series of fighting games and the first 2 games really stood as some of the better fighters of that era.

With this entry, they tried to mix it up with different layers of combat zones and up to 4 fighters on screen at a time, for what reason I shall never know.

While the it is commendable that they tried something new, it flat out doesn't work like it's supposed to. It doesn't work if you have to push a button to turn in a fighting game!

Fans of the series will get some enjoyement from the 1-on-1 combat, I find it hard to recommend to anyone else.

Guilty Gear Isuka review

By Valant posted 5th August 2011

Pretty excellent port you can use 2 360 pads without any hassle. You can even turn off the intro movies in the options

and it runs well on win 7. The big Problem with this particular Guilty Game Gear is that, in order to allow you play with 4 people in a few modes, you have a seperate turn button. This means that when facing an enemy you aren't well

always facing him. In a fast paced game like Guilty Gear, pretty much the most fast paced fighter, that will let quite a few blows go in

the wrong direction until your orientated right. Since the turn button istn't just for turning, you have to stand still for a moment to use it or you'll do an evasion role in the wrong direction.

Since the ai doesn't have this handicap and battles are mostly 1v1 anyway, you'll learn to hate that feature. But in multiplayer, when everyone has the same handicap and you actually need to turn because of multiple opponents,

it's a blast. The pc market is lacking in local coop party games and this is a great way to fill the gap. The 2d artwork holds up very well, unlike polygonal graphic from the same period and there are no big porting issues.

As a nice bonus you'll also get a brawler mode with waves of enemies and it even allows you to move in the z-plane. Overall a very well rounded good port that fills a niche present in many collections.

But the manual turning got the game marked down in most professional reviews and sadly that's justified.

Guilty Gear is one of the best fighting game series ever, and one of the few featured on PC. Guilty Gear Isuka is definitely a must have if you are into this kind of games and don't have a console.

Pros: Stylish, nicely animated 2D graphics; Good balance, lots of combos, specials, e.t.c.; 2-versus-2 mode; Up to four players on one machine multi-player.

Cons: Slightly less enjoyable without a gamepad and graphics may look slightly dated to some tastes. But your mileage may vary.

Guilty Gear Isuka is a good, solid fighting game for it's price. But the game does not support any form of online netplay whatsoever. When I purchased it, I read certain things the wrong way and thought netplay was supported. Regardless, despite not fitting what I wanted exactly, GG:Isuka is still a very solid purchase for the current asking price for any fighting game fans looking for a new option.

Guilty Gear Isuka review

While not ultimately outstanding, this is a good, solid fighting game which can bring a lot of joy to the user.

Being a fighting game fan for more than 15 years, I couldn't pass a chance to try this game. And I wasn't disappointed. The players were what I remembered from playing Guilty Gear franchise some time ago, and the gaming experience for nice - frantic and fast. Can be played without pad, although I admit it is a bit more difficult. With over-the-top moves and unique anime style, this is a game I can safely reccomend.

The only minus is a bit outdated graphics, but it isn't certainly a killer - Guilty Gear Isuka is fun enough to overlook that, especialy for the low cost.
