The Guild 2 is an outstanding game. If you enjoyed Sims, then you will most certainly enjoy The Guild 2. The Guild 2 is set in the 1400's where it's your object to control and manage your own business. Competing against others who will try to overcome you. You must establish a successful business in order to have income to buy more buildings and workers. It's your goal to stand out and be the most powerful in the town.

A very fun simulation game with a little bit of strategy thrown in. Basically you build up your family during late medieval Europe. Whether it's starting a business, getting elected to a public post, or going around thieving and killing everyone in town; there are a wide variety of things to do and how to build up your family dynasty.

However, the Guild II Renaissance is the latest stand alone expansion which includes all prior versions of the game. So if you really want this game, I would recommend picking up that version.

Not gonna lie, I had never heard of this game before I saw the guild 2 gold edition for sale here. Figured i have a little gamble and I'm happy to say i have not regretted it one bit.

Graphics are nice if a little dated, the gamplay however is amazing with so many differnet ways to play, from weaseling your way into the government and declaring sales embargos to hurt enemy businesses, to straight up training your family to be an army of ninja assassins and going on a murderous rampage through town.

This game is a real hidden gem and I advise anyone even remotely interested to give it a try.

This is a treasure for anyone who enjoys open ended sandbox-style games, but unfortunately a treasure not without the odd brass coin, paste jewel and broken chain.

The idea is fantastic - take the city building genre to the next step, by plunking you down into a game world as a random citizen, and then you take it from there to build not just a city and an empire, but also a dynasty. And not just by excelling in your chosen profession (of which you have a wide selection), but also by other means, including marriage and extra-marital affairs on the one hand, and by bribery, threats and even assassination on the other.

At first, the game just floors you with its multitude of choices and possibilities. As you progress, you eventually discover that perhaps the choices aren't quite as wide, and the possibilities somewhat limited and formulaic, but you also realize that what is left is still one of the most ambitious games out there.

Now, unfortunately, it is this ambition that is also the game's weakness. There's just so much that can happen, so many ways to play the game, so many people, so many interactions. And, ultimately, so many bugs that need fixing. The game has been out quite a a while, but not long enough for all the bugs to be fixed, and we're not talking just minor glitches either.

Still, you put up with many of them, just for the chance of playing such an ambitious game. Since it allows for many different ways of playing it - cloak and dagger political approach, criminal mastermind, or a relatively peaceful business approach, it has appeal to many different types of gamers, in different ways. An accomplishment all in itself.

The Guild II is addicting. There is always something that keeps you from wanting to quit, whether it's an election about to take place, or a courtship, or starting a new business. It's simple, but fun. A good game for anyone who likes simulations. If you like building up a family name and rising to the top tiers of a fictional city, you'll like this game.

I picked this up in the Guild 2 Complete Pack, and all you really need to buy is Renaissance - it grabs all the new features and puts them together. There are updates on the Runeforge forums, head there and install the extra patches for added stability. Multiplayer is doable but difficult due to errors, though there are some workarounds given on the Runeforge forums as well. If multiplayer was perfectly smooth I'm not sure I'd ever need to play another game! Definitely worth it though, no matter what. Single player (and multiplayer, when it works) is fantastic.

The Guild II is an incredible simulation that let's you control the life of up to three characters at once. You can work hard and build up a business or become a thief and take what you want. There are even political aspects that allow you to run for office and gain respect and prestige (or lose it by getting to the top with cut-throat methods.) Overall this is an excellent sim/strategy!

The guild 2 is what i'd call a functional city management/builder game. It does things as well as it needs to, but can be a little dull. I don't know whether it's because of the general dull textures, or the generic characters used. It looks like they used all the assets from the Gothic series, but made it into a strategy sim.

If you are into games like Patrician, but want it in 3D and more modern graphics, then you might want to try this.

The Guild 2 is a game unlike any others I have come across. It involves controlling an individual and creating a dynasty. A player can control up to 3 characters of the same dynasty, which must either be married to or born from a current member. A character can be removed from control, but can never be added back. There are 4 different guilds, or types of occupations, that can be chosen from. The game is mostly about keeping your dynasty alive, building a business or businesses from the ground up, acquiring wealth, bribing your way from a commoner to a baron, and not letting other dynasties outclass you by attempting to destroy them. And heaven help your dynasty if the plague takes root in town. The computer is terrible at actually dealing with the problem and it can easily wipe out most of the town, your workers, and your family.

The business aspect is my favorite, followed by the political career your family can embark on as well. Trials are a blast! especially if you learn to make Sorcerer's Documents, which trump up charges on whomever you like.

Try a demo of the game and, if you like it, get The Guild 2: Renaissance. It has the most gameplay to it and doesn't need the base game to play it.

The Guild 2 has a lot going on, it is pretty limited in scope. The game centers on repeating a handful of tasks over and over again, even though there are numerous occupations available for each of the four classes. Patrons, scholars, and craftsmen make money in similar ways, by crafting goods from raw resources and selling them in town marketplaces. Scholars are the game's professional class, serving as priests, doctors, and the like, but they still manufacture goods like the parchment and holy water that are cranked out in churches. Food-producing patrons work in the fields to cultivate crops and raise beef cattle for sale. Or they run pubs and inns, making and selling booze and food. And craftsmen make their money by crafting metal goods like daggers in foundries or by making clothing in mills

The Guild 2 is an excellent addition to my library and the guild legacy. It is an absolutely magical game, and I adore it.

There are some rough edges in this game. The bugs are sometimes annoying, but patches have fixed many of them, the visuals are dated (but this is to be expected), and the game presents you with a wealth of information and can be confusing.

That said, I love this game. The business, sims, and political systems are all surprising in depth and provide a lot of interesting gameplay. The whole game itself has a sort of unexplainable draw as well. at a point I quite simply could not put it down. It is hard to explain why it is so great.

Try it for yourself, you won't be disappointing.

Like its sequel, TG2: Renaissance, TG2 is an interesting build-your-own medieval business empire. While you can get Renaissance as a stand-alone, and it comes with a lot more features than the original Guild II, the original has its merits. The economy and the hierarchy are a lot simpler (and thereby not so confusing) - and the original Guild II comes with walkthroughs so you don't feel so lost when playing for your first time. .

I recommend you get The original Guild II if you have never played any version of The Guild before, as it will not be as hectic or confusing as its expansion packs, and it will come with a tutorial. And when you've got the gist of it, I recommend Renaissance, as it is much better, but doesn't come with any tutorials.

The sequel to The Guild/Europa 1400, is a bit hard to review. On the one hand it looks a lot better, has more depth etc. than the first game, but on the other the AI is worse, there are bugs galore and there are many performance issues with the game. Normally I would just say to skip the original and go straight to the more refined expansions were it not for the fact that this game, like all the Guild 2 expansions, has a number of unique maps exclusive to each version. This alone makes the game playable even if the experience is a bit clunkier and more frustrating than the newer titles. Play this only after playing the newer expansions if you want a few more maps to play on.

This game builds from the success of the first game. You get your character, pick his career, dive into the world and build your dynasty. The graphics is better than ever, and give you much better immersion. The bugs and AI problem can be annoying though. Once you get into the game, you will easily spend hours and hours of time without even notice.

This game is amazing, so much of an improvement over the original and it delivers to the gamer on so many levels. There are still a few bugs, but I can almost overlook them because of the sheer greatness of this game. Pick up this continuance to the classic, you won't regret your purchase. ;)

Great strategy game, I got the entire series for just a few dollars, an incredible value. Very addictive. You’ll spend a lot of time building up your family and business. It is also quite challenging. A few minor bugs can be annoying, but overall you should get this one.

Reminds me of a mix of Fable and the Sims. You get a character and have to choose a career path. You find a wife, can have children, upgrade your house/business, and get involved with politics as well. Your character(s) have different attributes which you can improve when you level up. You can control up to three characters as well. I really liked climbing the political ladder in this game. It's nothing complex, you just charm or bribe your way into office and try to move up from a low position to mayor. My problem with the game is after a while it becomes a little dull. There's not enough variety, or random encounter type events to keep you hooked, hurting the replay value a bit.

The Guild II review

The Guild II is an interesting simulation type game, which allows you to run a dynasty in the Medieval era. You start with just one character, that you can create (although the options are somewhat limited - don't expect a Sims range of hair etc.) and start your journey with. In the standard game, you can choose from four professions: patron, crafts(wo)man, scholar or rogue. From there, you can pretty much do what you like - marry, have children, create a huge and profitable business, run for mayor, go around harassing and attacking people - it really is pretty endless.

That said, I think the tutorial is pretty poor, which leaves a new player (namely me) aimlessly roaming the town with only basic knowledge of what to do. Unless you're wise with money, you'll be spending a pretty substantial time with no money to expand (although that could just be me...). The interactions between characters are... a little cringey and extremely limited; you can only press a few different options, like "talk", "flirt" etc. I think running for mayor is insanely hard, especially if you're juggling the actions of a few other family members as well. To be successful in politics, you need to befriend a number of people - and running a business whilst being friendly with everyone is hard work!

Nevertheless, there are undoubtedly a few little problems with this game, but it's a cool little thing with lots of hours of fun to be had - and of course, replayability because of the different professions, maps and expansions. Definitely recommended.

The Guild series is great. I think the dynastic aspect is what appeals to me the most. I have played games of the original The Guild 1400 into like 8 generations. Yes, of course, it isn't perfect and the AI could be much stronger in the original Guild game but I just can't help but love the hell outta them all.

Nice little managment simulation, it's a pity that the game is so repetitive and without any automatizations!

The game has a huge potential, but with so tiny maps (with 2 or 3 towns), fighting often against awful IA and as I said with a cruel lack of automatization, I would reccomand this game only for micro-management addicted and for the fans of middle-age trade.

At first 'The Guild 2' may seem confusing, bizarre or even difficult. It took my around fifteen to thirty minutes to gain enough understanding to move confidently through the game. Did I regret it? No! The Guild 2 revealed itself to be a timeless, almost limitless game. Working my way through the interface soon became a breeze, greeted by wonderful graphics for a game of this caliber.

The gameplay was fantastic. Before I knew it, my simple patron had become the head of an estate farm, married with two children (who also grew up to start their own businesses) and had a coffer full of gold. My wife had a successful political career in the towns grim medieval feudal structure as I took joy in sentencing people to death as the chief magistrate.

The game may seem sticky at first, but trust me be patient because The Guild 2 will give you hours of gameplay, which you can repeat again in yet another profession!

Though I have never played previous Guild games, this one certainly got me interested in the series. I enjoyed having a family and having a wide variety of jobs to keep my top 3 members busy with. Even after hours of playing I still had much more to accomplish and this game does not dissapoint in terms of replayability.

I really tried to like the game and installed mods too. In the end this game stops 10% on the way. It tries to achieve immersiveness but ultimately fails to do so because of bugs, repetitive gameplay and technical issues. Graphics are terrible, the money making part is a no-brainer (once you have figured it out) and the political play is pointless. Very frustrating experience, eats up lots of time but fails to deliver. 1 Star.

this is a fun and unique medieval life sim that is marred by a steep learning curve and needless micromanagement.

if those things don't phase you, you will have a lot of fun running your business, robbing merchants running for mayor and leading your family through the ages.

I absolutely love this game. Although now it has gotten much better with patches, this game had so many glitches and crashes it was unbelievable. Even through it all I could not stop playing it. There is so much attention to detail I wouldn't even no where to start. Basically, just imagine you are in a medieval world and anything you can do in that world, you can do in this game. The possibilities are endless. An all time favorite I love it.

Seems to be a good economic style game, however I would warn that there is a steep learning curve. The tutorial only goes so far.

This game is a two star game for me. I am not much into RPG games, but thought I would try this one because it had some good reviews. Personally this game is too slow for me. Not the graphics speed, but the speed of the gameplay. Maybe it is because the RPG's I have played are quest style action games. Guild II is directed more toward those interested in political and commerce gameplay. The graphics are good (not great). The information screens and upgrade screens are not always very intuitive, especially the screen to get resources and use them for whatever craft guild you are in.

Overall I was not very impressed with this game. After a couple of weeks I was tired of it. It may be that I need to plug away at it some more to get the entertainment value, but the gameplay is pretty tedious to me. If you like a game that is not about battles or strategy this may be a game for you, but if you are more into strategy games and adventure/quest games I would bypass this one.

The Guild II review

By Goergyboy posted 14th August 2009

This game is oddly addictive, and you won't realize it for a good while. It has the 'one more turn' syndrome that games of civilization can cause. I haven't bothered with the main campaign, but the custom game mode is very good, and not much is different between the two. Running a business and dabbling in politics up to the point of King/Queen keeps the game fun and interesting.

However, towards the end can get quite tedious, though this is a dynasty oriented game not a single character oriented game, your first character can live well long enough to rise from low class to ruler. The children you have end up being more support up until your main dies, and while you can accomplish more with 3 then with 1 you often find yourself doing the same thing just 3 times more.

I gave this game a 3 since although I enjoyed the game well enough to give it a 4 despite any of it's flaws, when you do finally beat it there is no ending, just a graph of your statistics such as family wealth. That really killed the replayability for me.

The Guild II review

By flinkis posted 13th August 2009

You can be a nobleman and work your way up the political ladder or you could be a highwayman robbing travelers or you could be a bit of both. There are so many things you can do in Guild 2 that you will probably miss most of them in your first run. But what is the Guild 2, it's a rpg/action/strategy/ the sims mix. Depending on what class your character becomes the game will shape it self after that

By bbelott posted 30th July 2009

I actually really liked this game. The ability to run for office and thinking ahead about what offices to get to keep your family in power is really cool. It is a very engaging and immersive game. Some graphics bugs, but nothing that wrecks the game like I'v seen in other graphically enhanced games. Good game!
