Well, first, let's get this out: the dialogues suck. And you'll see plenty, seeing this is a non-linear game. The problem I think is the translation; it's a Russian game and I'm sure they knew what they were writing in Russian, but at some point something got lost and you're left with characters that sound like they're children (not that there is voice acting).
Anyway. The gameplay is great. There's two parts to it: exploring, and fighting. Fighting is kinda like Heroes of Might and Magic. You're on a grid reminiscent of a chess board, and you move your troops around, turn-based style. In Crossworlds, you also unlock 4 Spirits with unique devastating abilities that recharge differently for each spirit. You also have several spells to cast.
Exploring is nothing like Heroes though. It's entirely in real time, which means enemies will pursue you if you get too close and you better hope you can react fast enough to get away (that's also a nice addition: from the very start you can find enemies way out of your level. It does add a dimension to the game; you'll have to think twice before taking action).
The game is non-linear since there are plenty of side quests. However, you have to recruit units from different buildings, and there's a limited number. Building A for example might have 50 archers while building B has 25. If you exhaust both buildings, you won't be able to recruit archers, period.
By making progress in the main quests, you can unlock an unlimited supply of archers - or any troop, really. Therefore at some point you'll have to think a bit and keep the story going.
I do have to note this is how I remember it. I haven't played in a while but I remember it was like that in the first (The Legend).
Now, we're in presence of an expansion pack here and I'm fairly sure it needs Armored Princess to work seeing it installs in the same directory.
Therefore, not wanting to review Armored Princess, I'll skip to Crossworlds: it adds a lot, and in a day and age where we're bombarbed with DLCs, it's nice to have a huge pack come out. The game editor itself is great if you have friends to share maps with and the campaigns will add a lot of hours to your save file. The rest is just bonus.
