GAME SUMMARY

Loki

Rating: 3.1 (86 votes cast)

A fantasy voyage through the great mythologies, Loki allows the player to take on the role of one of the 4 heroes of the game, each drawn from a different mythology : a mighty Norse fighter, a fierce Greek warrior, a powerful Egyptian magician or an Aztec shaman who masters the secrets of the spirit world.

Whatever hero the player adopts, he must come to the aid of the gods he worships. He will come to realise that behind the chaos that is threatening his world lies Seth, the Egyptian god of darkness and evil, who has returned from the kingdom of the dead. The hero must therefore undertake an epic journey across the various epochs and myths. He will fight a multitude of monsters of all shapes and sizes, and even overthrow a few gods, on his way to preventing Seth establish his wicked reign.

  • An epic adventure across 4 great mythologies – Aztec, Egyptian, Greek and Norse – allowing the player to live through many of the key episodes that mark these cultures (the siege of Troy, Ragnarok, ......) and setting him in the path of the most prominent figures within each episode (Achilles, Thor, Akhenaton.....)
  • Choose from 4 different heroes with radically different attributes and powers. Each hero has a vast array of spells and skills to help him through his quest.
  • More than 100 monsters of all shapes and sizes
  • Dare to take on mythological creatures that struck fear into the hearts of our ancestors (Fenrir the giant wolf, the Minotaur in his labyrinth, .......)
  • Innumerable story lines through random generation of decors and items, so that nobody lives the same experience and allowing the game to be played many times without the hero ever having the same set of weapons, armour or spells.
  • Weapons, being made of two parts (loosely "handle" + "cutting edge") and from different materials, can be customised at the village forge to change characteristics. Magic runes, found along the way, can multiply the a weapon's power.
  • Live through the adventure with friends in cooperative multiplayer mode or fight in single combat against friend or foe in PVP mode on a battleground.

Norse gods are boring apparently

By rosienski posted 29th August 2011

Loki is a generic diablo clone with some decent graphics and awful controls. Thats really all there is to say about it. you run around and whack monsters and build up your bland character. the interface is clunky and doesnt scale well at high resolutions (everything is REALLY SMALL at 1080). its not a bad game i guess, it just isnt very good. unless you are dying for a diablo clone and have already played EVERYTHING else i would skip this one.

This was a tough game for me to stick with and in the end I didn't. It's missing that undefinable "something" that takes a game with average gameplay to the level of a game someone wants to finish (I call that something, oomph). The relatively mindless hack-n-slash is fun enough and if that is your thing you will probably enjoy the game. Kudos to the developers for some of the small tweaks they made on the ARPG formula, but in the end the hook just didn't set and I moved on after 5-6 hours of play. A couple final notes: I did not experience any bugs or glitches during the time I spent playing the Amazon's story, and be sure to check the Game Tutor section for the proper no-disc patch if you get and patch the game.

It's lacking in polish, possessed of poor animation quality, and highly repetitive. The graphics are ... okay... and the various classes and quests available are interesting enough, but the enemies you fight are numerous and the definition of cannon fodder. It might be fun if you've never played the superior Titan Quest, or if you've played TQ to death and need a new game; but compared to TQ it is highly lacking.

WARNING: Contains Starforce!!

Unfortunately I didn't know before purchase now it's too late. Limited 3 activation. This is something that should be displayed on the game page.

It's glitchy and it's a big problem. It saves automatically and if it crashes when it saves it corrupts the file and you lose all your progress. I just lost 3 hours of play and all the equipment I had found. There is a new patch that is available 1.0.8.3 as I write this but when I tried it before I activated the game it asked me for a CD. Still waiting on Gamer's Gate support to tell me how to patch to the latest version.

It's an ARPG in the Diablo style of genre. If you like games like that then this game will appeal to you. But be warned the game has bugs and it might just make you lose all your progress if it crashes at the wrong time.

Slightly glitchy but excellent dungeon crawl, loot collecting game. Lengthy quests, replayability at three levels of difficulty, interesting skill trees, great art direction. Don't buy if you don't like killing thousands of critters in search of that fabulous rare item.
