War in the North is a pretty... interesting game. It's an action RPG aimed at more mature players, and for the most part it's pretty good at that. However, visually it's not entirely impressive (the main menu is also confusing), the combat can feel a little repetitive, and you have no real control over the other members of your party. The voice acting is pretty good, however, with Laura Bailey voicing the female, playable Elf. And she is *amazing*.

With a few changes, e.g. an inventory system akin to Dragon Age 2/Mass Effect for party members, it could have been an excellent game. But sadly, due to the studio's closure, this won't happen.

The game is quite entertaining. If you are a LOTR fan then its worth grabbing especially for a low price. Solo it is quite fun but coop is really the core of the game. The story is set in the north an area not covered by the movies and only slightliy covered by the books (in the appendices), some liberties are taken of course with the plot but all in all its ok even if not s rich as in most RPGs.

This was surprisingly entertaining and even more surprisingly lore-friendly piece. I'm a huge fan of Tolkien's creations and I took the news of this game with a metric a**-ton of salt... Needless to say I was very much pleased by the experience of playing this. I expected horrible license-abusing hack-n-slash fest, but what I got was a pleasantly lore-filled story with flowing combat.

It is not without any flaws, nor is it anything that couldn't be better. But it is far from a "bad" game.

Absolutely love it. Good old hack and slash game play. Finally a Champions of Norath type game comes to PC. Best with pals but good enough alone, this game will have you playing through at least a few times (or if your like me, about 6 atm) Does have a few bugs that stop a level from progressing, but I have only encountered one through my 6 runs so far. Too bad it doesn't look like any DLC is coming for this fantastic venture into the northern parts of LOTR.

LOTR: War in the North is a fun but flawed game. Graphically it looks good most of the time, but overall it's presentation is uneven and often you notice muddy textures or things that don't look as good as they should. The atmosphere of LOTR is captured nicely though, and you visit many of the places in books and they look really nice.

Gameplay is pretty much a diablo styled loot hunt mixed with a more visceral action game. You move and attack in real time and combat is brutal and has lots of blood and dismemberment. As you gain levels, you unlock new attacks/skills and while there's a decent variety for each character, it does get repetitive.

The game includes co-op as well, and while it's fun, could have been done better. The game is designed around having 1 member of the party accounted for at all times, so if two people wanted to play the dwarf character this is not possible since only one of each is allowed at any given time. So often you are forced to play a character you don't want to if you play online.

Overall the game is fun and has 3 difficulty levels to replay through and find ever increasing quality of loot. With that said, it get's dull and doesn't compel quite like other games in the genre. Overall I got about 15 hours of enjoyment from the game.

The game is nice but can't be compared with real RPG like the Elder Scrolls series, the Dragon Age series, The Witcher series, Two Worlds and the like of those. It has some RPG elements, but this game quit bound to the story line and has no real free roaming as in other 'real' RPG. I do like the story, being a huge Tolkien fan helps with that and the 'feel' is okay.

The thing I really dislike, is the way the game saving is set-up. That is terrible in my honest opinion and needs to changed ASAP. If you go through a chapter and get stuck in a unfavourable situation you cant go back to an earlier stage. At least I haven't found a way to do that. This totally took me off the game for this moment. Mainly because I dislike replaying from a fixed, unfavourable, stage and end up with a certain death every time. That doesn't motivate me at all.

If this is value for money, at this moment I say: no. But that is due to me being stuck in a chapter with a bad starting point to end that chapter and I am to far in progress to restart and replay from the beginning. This I did already earlier in the game.

If the price is 50% of what it is now, I would call it a fair deal.

The Game is alright, Pretty straight forward hack and slash

its emersive with the story , though that the gameplay might become repetitive

There are tons of items and equip to be found, all changing the way you look

the combo Hero mode its quite addctive and the overall AI its alright

but as i said before things just keep happening the same way

after a few hours in you feel like you have been doing the same thing since you started

the skill tree is not interesting enough

and there are way too many passive skills and lack of active skills

overall this game would be a 6 for me.

Save your money, worst 45 dollars I have ever spent on a game. If you want to play this game then go out and get might and magic for play station 2? 2 basic attacks, its a mass x/y game or left and right click game, you have to change cam angles to attack people. I think I am ready to join the motion of it don't have a demo, I don't buy. Just stay away, I can't say anything positive about this game. Oh yeah, no real tutorial too.
