On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One review

A point and click, turn-based, rpg w/ a lot of humor thrown in. A fairly short game (I beat it in two play-throughs, maybe 2.5-3 hours). The first couple of battles were pretty simple, then things started to get a little harder. You really need to pay attention to who is weak against which attacks. And you'll be thankful for all the items you get for battles, because you'll be using them a lot. Once you beat this game you can continue the story in Episode Two. I ended up getting the games on sale for $1.24, which is well worth the price. And the $5 asking price isn't that bad either.

I didn't find this game that interesting. So far I haven't laughed at any joke in the game and I don't like running around solving lame puzzles either. But some people do like predictable jokes and other childish stuff. Still the game is pretty much what the description said, I'm not disappointed, had to try it out. Maybe I've had too much humor in my life when nothing in this game seems funny to me - that I didn't know before actually playing.

Fun story, interesting characters and classic RPG mechanics. These elements make a RPG great, and Penny Arcade is certainly is a good one. The comical graphic and representation make the game look really good and stylish. The whole trilogy, with the third game from another developer, are all great games.

I really enjoyed this game, it has decent RPG elements, and its not too complicated so you learn how it works very quickly. I love the dark humour the game contains, it is always quite funny and entertaining. I would recommend anybody to play through this at least once, it is definitely worth it

This is a really unique RPG game in many aspects. From the very first moments it strikes at you, how quirky it is with the whole presentation being firmly tongue-in-cheek. From fruit "loving" robots to mad doctors researching some... unconventional disciplines, this game is throwing one crazy idea after another straight at you.

Despite the overall oddness and the cartoonish graphics, "On the Rain-Slick..." is a game definitely aimed towards more mature audiences. Not only it throws buckets of gore during action scenes, but the dialogues are laden with profanity. Nonetheless, the game doesn't come across as juvenile, but rather this tone is very fitting when mixed into the blend.

The gameplay is reminiscent of jRPGs as your party is stationary during the attacks, but the plot is definitely western with some of the influences taken from HPL "Cthulhu Mythos".

"On the Rain-Slick..." is not a game for everyone, but I consider it a golden example of a mix of different ideas that work well together. This is only the first episode of the duology (at the time of writing already a trilogy) and is quite short, but good things often come in small measures.

A lighthearted RPG, with a lot of humor (though a lot of it is kinda immature, but that's PA for you).

In my opinion it doesn't really have any flaws, it flows nicely and has really nice graphics, sound and gameplay. Can't ask for much more.

Very cool game, only flaw i see is that its tormented by very immature stuff at times /most common enemy is an robot trying to have sex with fruits, and pees on you\

But the humor, when it stays away from sex and pee jokes its brilliant! And the gameplay is very solid :) having a blast iwth this one

This title is shorter than game name :P

Despite having a truly monumental title, this is a lighthearted, tongue-in-cheek comic RPG, based on all times favourite, the Penny Arcade. Visuals are standard Japanese-style RPG-like stuff, plus some nice comic interludes, cunnigly woven into the story. Storyline is fun and engaging, and true to the spirit of Penny Arcade.

Combat would also be standard Japanese RPG issue, were it not for minigames for some special moves. They add to the thrill of the battle and seem to work very well. Enemies have some very... interesting... moves.

Overall, the game is a great fun!

This game is one of the "unknow epic games"

RPG and Point and click, both of my favorite game style in one, how could it go wrong !

The graphics are good, the dialogs and voice acting are great (even thought sometimes I had trouble understanding(Full english for a non native speaker ^^)

The story line is fun but there are 2 things that bother me

The point and click aspect is great and the RPG is cool too, but well It's weird to go from one to another, even if we get use to it.

The other major flaw is that the third game is canceled, People play the two episodes and were waiting for more but we ended up with a great but unfinished game, It's like Harry potter stopped at the 5th book, it's just frustrating.

a very well done turn based rpg looks great and has plenty of humor for rpg fans the turn based battle system works very well with the pc version and it can only get better in the second episode the voice actin is very well done in the game i like the narrators voice the most kinda puts a dark a mysterious feel to the game the only thing i dont like is near the end of the game when grinding starts i wont spoil anything there make sure you have a decent computer to run this or that part will make you mad :P

PAA1 is a decent, but rather short, RPG from the creators of Penny Arcade. It is fairly well written and humorous, which is the main attraction for playing it. The actual gameplay is that of a simple JRPG, like the early Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior games. It is a bit overpriced for a brief episodic game whose third episode was canceled, which leaves the story unfinished. If you like the humor of Penny Arcade and the gameplay of older JRPGs it is worth picking up on sale.
