Europa Universalis 2 (EU2) is basically the same game as the original but with most of the quirks and limitations removed. In the original you could only choose between the 8 nations offered in the menu. In EU2 you can choose from any of the roughly 200 countries in the game. In the game you choose your country and try to ensure it a better place in the world before the game ends in 1814. The game doesn't have an end goal but instead lets you choose your own objectives. In order to rate your success you get victory points based on fulfilling missions which you choose. EU2 is certainly the best game in the grand strategy genre of it's age. I personally do find it a little easier to navigate than EU3, but it doesn't have quite as many bells and whistles. But at the price it's really a steal.

The game is very similar to the first one, so there is no reason to buy it if you have Eu I. However, EU III offers lots of new things that make the game more interesting. By the way, you can have EU II for free in your VOID list. The serie Europa Universalis in general is one of the best strategy game that represent the period of sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth years and the expansion of european empires. The way you can rise colonies is very exciting, so is the way to make alliances. Buildind empires is not easy, you have to work hard. The serie also offers an ancient Rome game that I would recomkmend. These games are all closae to history, so they present real facts with explanations (for example invasions, revolts, financial troubles and generale turmoils). Exciting!

A grand strategy game covering almost the whole world for 400 years from medieval , being a king monitoring every aspect of your kingdom. That sounds great isn't it? It plays great, though it is a bit hard. This game is such a signiture of Paradox, it broke through and became one of the most popular grand strategy game, just like Total War and Civilization.

Game is a good deal; much better than the sequel due to its simplicity. One aspect that I do not like though is that history is very difficult to break with in this game. Worth your time.

Europa U 2 is an excellent game for those who favor historical/ political gaming. I covers Roughly four centuries of history, from 1419, to 1820, allowing players to play as a still living Byzantine Empire and revive it, defeating the Ottomans. Or, you can lead Britain and crush the American Revolution, and keep your New World Empire.

EU 2 is an amazing strategy/historical game! It still has great game play, after all of these years! It has a bunch better look, feel and outside support than EU3. Downloading Mods for EU2 will increase the game's lifeline ten-fold.

In my opinion if you like strategic games you should try Europa Universalis 2 because you won't regret it. In my opinion one of the best games ever. In Eu2 every country is different and requires a different strategy . Besides, we can live a piece of history. Throughout the long campaign we witness the creation of modern states, religion wars, colonialism, struggle for the dominion of trade zones, the enlightment and the modern science, etc. All in all, so many things for so little price.

Europa Universalis 2 was a real breakthrough in paradox game development. Finally you could choose more nations than just the powerhouses! It was also, I think, the most easy-to-learn hard-to-master paradox game excluding maybe Hearts of Iron II.

But now, it's glory passed, many mods died and most of the community moved on to Europa Universalis 3 and hardcore EU2 fanatics had FTG (before it died an unfortunate death).

Still, if you'd like to refresh the oldies, it's a good choice.

A classic, but nevertheless excellent game. One of the most encompassing and enthralling games of its kind, in my opinion! It manages to strike a good balance between respect of a thorough historical framework and a delighting game experience...

Should there be anyone out there who hasn't played this game, I strongly suggest they do.

This was THE game that brought me into the world of Paradox. While it may look dated today, EUII was fantastic when it was released. It has aged quite well, and the patching and updating was stellar.

The premise is simple: Pick any country and lead it to glory or perish while trying. The historical events add flavour and while some see them as a constraint, I'd have liked a lot more in later Paradox games. EUII was and is the pinnacle of Paradox achievement.

Best strategy game ever! This is the only game that I have ever played off and on for over two years. It has alot of re-playability. Initially you will try to master all the elements, then you will try to dominate and try different strategies. Almost every move you make has a consequence on how your game progresses. My only wish is that there was more of a building element to cities (ala Civilization) but otherwise this game beats Civ in many many ways.

A Paradox classic.

Lead the state of your choice through the latter half of the 2nd millennium. Choose an established power and expand it across the world or pick a tiny nation and attempt to survive. So many possibilities allow endless re-playability.

This is a great historical strategy game! My favorite point is that all countries over the world exist and are playable. This lets me feel befaviors of countries with affecting each other and exite. I think playing this game a few times will make anyone interested in history even if he or she does not like it. This game has such power and prize.

I don't really understand the hype around this or the other EU titles.

The diplomacy is very bare-bones, or at least I didn't find it any better than in, say Civ IV.

If you're playing a smaller state, it's pretty much game over once a major power declares war on you. Sure, that may be realistic, but is it fun to be steamrolled and not able to do anything about it?

And maybe I made a mistake before buying this one, but I thought it would be historically accurate. Without getting into details, the royal succession in England, for example, was totally ahistorical. I was hoping for the royal lineage to appear in the right order; unfortunately it didn't.

I recommend EUIII over this one.

A great bargain at $9.99. One of the longest games I have ever played with a fairly moderate learning curve. The only drawback is that it is eclipsed by EU3 in almost every way.

Good sequel to EU1, the precursor to all paradox titles that, nowadays, we consider so essential. Not many changes, though. If you are trying to save money and already know EU1, follow directly to something else, like EU3 or the original Victoria.

This game is very complex compared to your standard RTS, the idea is to take things slow, instead of rushing , building a huge army and declaring war on anyone you can.Graphically EU2 does the job and thats fine enough like the other Paradox games.

The soudtrack is huge ( over 2 hours ) with various musical styles wich changes over the course of the game. The sound effects mark the action.

The research aspect of the game is done via sliders in the budget. Overall EU2 is a great game !

Phenomenal game, a true classic, and one of the best paradox games there is. The sheer replayability in this game alone, has allowed me to put in thousands of hours, if any game has that 'just one more decade' kind of feel, it's Europa Universalis 2. I can surely say, this game stands the test of time.
