Penumbra: Black Plague is a truly terrific game! It has haunting atmosphere, great physics motor and a gripping story. It is one of the few games, that has managed to scare me out of my wits!

The atmosphere in this game is it’s strongpoint. It relies on dim lighting, eerie voices, and truly creepy monsters to keep you on your toes at all times. It builds up slowly and steadily, up to the point, where your nerves are at their breaking point. Then it convinces you, that everything is okay, only to unleash somekind of hideous beast on you. Penumbra truly captures the spirit of great horror games, and it doesn’t degenerate to splatterfest at any point.

The physics motor of this game is also great. Many of it’s puzzles rely on manipulating the environment in some way. Every object acts like it should when moved around. If you get stuck in this game, you’re probably trying to think in a “gamey” way. Just rely on your normal wits, and use objects the way they should be used.

I’m not going to tell you about the story, because that would ruin it. You just have to try it out yourself. ;) What I’m going to tell you, is that the game delivers a truly grippping narrative. It manages to slowly guide you into a frightening world, that makes you question your sanity.

So if you like horror games, you have to try Penumbra! It WILL scare to death.

While these games are not flawless, the truth is I have probably never felt as immersed in a game as with both Penumbra titles (or Amnesia, also by Frictional games). I think it has a lot to do with the first person physics-based gameplay, but also all the other aspects of the game: the non-combat system, setting, storyline, sound design, all contribute to make these games some of the most athmospheric (and terrifying) video game experiences out there.

Good game overall with a few parts that will make you jump.

However the game can seem a little short and make you want a little more. Well the DLC comes cheap with the pack so its not bad.

i found it to be very difficult to solve some of the puzzles in the game, but its worthwhile, the game made me scared to advance though some of the levels, that's how realistic the horror is.

Great horror game at a great price. From the same people that made the now legendary Amnesia, the Penumbra series is definitely scary, although maybe a tad less so than Amnesia. Plenty of interesting monsters hunt you, while some environmental puzzles work the brain. Atmosphere is terrific, you should definitely give it a try!

Also, Black Plague was my personal favorite in the Penumbra series.

This is a great first person view game combining first person view with a little of horror (much less than I expected, fortunatelly :P) and puzzle solving.

It is not long, but its chilling environment, play style and great story that you unveil from mid-game to the end it's more than worth it.

This game is fantastic.

With a wonderful atmosphere that just haunts you constantly and an interesting story that unfolds around you digging you deeper and deeper, this game is absolutely worth it.

I would recommend that you enjoy horror games before trying penumbra or amnesia, otherwise these games will freak you out.

A masterpiece of gaming design and interaction with the environment created, bested only by its spiritual sequel Amnesia. Great story, involvement, horror and suspense, creating an atmosphere which sucks you in completely. The developers ability to create atmosphere and tension in a game is second to none and this is an excellent example of their inept ability which no other seems to be able to match, at least in games of this time period. One of the greatest games ever solely due to its ability to engulf you in its world and not let go for a second, along with its amazing horror which, as you would expect of this developer, niggles in the back of your mind hours after you finish and its build up with perfection to the point where you can be paralyses without even seeing your harasser and think you couldn't be any more scared. Hint: you can be.

If you like Amnesia and loved it then Penumbra is a must buy for you. Just like Amnesia Penumbra provides a chilling atmosphere that will make your heart beat and your hands shake. The game, unlike Amnesia, also has a great sense of humor. It has more human interaction than Amnesia did and it made me crack a smile a few times. This adds a contrast which makes things all the more horrific when events turn for worst. If you're looking for something to scare your face off then Penumbra is a game for you!

Fantastic atmosphere of suspense and fear makes this a fun game to play. My character sometimes had to run as fast as he could while I screamed at my desktop. The only drawback that I could find is that sometimes moving back and forth within the complex was tedious at times while trying to complete a task. But once you accomplished that task, you moved on easily to the next task and area to explore. Did I mention the atmosphere of fear was great?

This was by far my favorite of the 3 penumbra games.. It is a very chilling game, that is hard to just stop playing. The story continues where the first one left off, and in this game, all of the secrets are revealed. I just wish that the games were alot longer. It seemed that the end came too soon, after 6-7 hours of gameplay.

This game is fantastic, it's incredibly scary, and actually has a decent story. The puzzle mechanics can get annoying sometimes and that is why I gave it four stars, but over all the game is brilliant.

Dark halls. Eerie whispering. Terrifying demon monster things. Cheap. Yup, this looks like the start of a good horror game already! Add puzzles that make you think of more practical solutions rather then mixing A with B to create C, and you've got yourself one hell of a night! i say ONE night, because unfortunately it is a very short game for those of you who are willing (and daring) enough to go all the way through the game!

The graphics in this game aren't great, but there is still a lot of fun value in this game. If your into horror games this is definitively one you need to play. The scary noises, dark hallways, and disfigured infected will have you on the edge of your seat. That said, the game does get a bit repetitive with the problems you have to solve. overall this game is worth a try.

Fear is a powerful emotion, and like its predecessor, Penumbra Overture, Black Plague cranks the fear factor up to 11 and keeps it there. There is no combat, so the only way to defeat enemies is to outsmart and avoid them, or in some cases set traps to kill or stun them enough to make a quick getaway. Possibly the defining feature of the game is its physics engine, which makes opening doors a more analogue affair, controlled by the mouse rather than a button. It also makes the proceedings more realistic - pushing a door open just a fraction to peek out into a corridor or to avoid making a noise and attracting monsters to your position. Puzzles are solved by thinking logically, and anything too complex for casual observers (programming a computer card, for instance) is explained well in-game. All this in addition to great voice acting and a tangible sense of unease, this makes Penumbra: Black Plague well worth a look.

My graphic teacher nagged to us students to buy and try the games from Frictional Games, where he's working at. Seeing his art skills piqued my interest, because he is darn good.

And it sure wasn't disappointing. This is a terrifying good game, one of many. Dark, moody and scary with small means. It doesn't have to be a bad thing if a game manages to produce crap, because I almost crapped my pants.

Highly atmospheric Lovecraftian survival horror game - the best Lovecraftian game out there I think (barring certain elements of Dark Corners of the Earth). This game also features a very interesting and highly sophisticated control system. Puzzles are generally logical and built well into the environment.

Genuiononly scary. I mean this game is creeper than the first time i played the first silent hill. Unique. Being infected with a virus that talks to you and messes with your head the entire game was a total trip. i loved this game. I did have a few graphics problems (mostly with the flashlight) and the translations (as i have learned this is a russian title) but niether are to the point as to make the game unenjoyable. This game will hook you. i promise. 5 out of 5 stars. I definatly recommend this as it is a very unique and scary game.

Black Plague continuos where Penumbra left to us, we have the same protagonist, who is now infected by a dangerous virus. You have to travel across Groenlandia, with new puzzles and more plagues, you will enjoy this game a lot. This game has nothing to envy to other graphical adventures games, doesn't have a lot of advertising like other, but i can tell you that is so interenting or more than others. This game deserve a 9.5/10, is a great discovery to me.

This game is a piece of shit, i've played the Dmoe for about a hour, & loved it.

So I purchased the full game, to continue where I left off. But, everytime I get to the game it starts fucking up!!. All the texture in the game starts acting crazy.

Shit...usually the demo is what does that, not the full game.

I played crysis right after that on high settings. So, NO!! it's not my graphics card or prsr.

I want my fucking money back...........NOW!!!

this game gives me the shivers and im only 12.It has good graphics but it could of been longer.This is not for people who dont like to think and get scared.I would recomend it.

This is one of the best games i've ever played. The story pick off right were the first game left off. The physics in the game are really good and that all helps to the puzzule solving and the horror. This time you have no wepons so your forced to hide from eneimes. The game gets really terafing when your being chased by a enemy. Problembs. Very littile. Ifound the game very short only taking 3hrs to complete. And depending on how you think you may never complete this game without a guide. but other than that, this is a game that dosent just move the benchmark. It takes it. and buys it so no other game can have it. I recomend this game

Fantastic, overture was great, and this one was even better, a really high reccomendation for anyone who likes survival horror, or is a fan of the creepy.

Superb adventure. It's strength is it's lack of enemies. You get to learn how to run very quickly. The physics work great and get used often for puzzle solving. Ultimately though it's just simply a very creepy adventure, that refuses to resort to cheap tricks or any of the current fads in teen horror.

Quite possibly the scariest game I have ever played. I absolutely enjoyed it! The story was great. This and the first game are amazing.
