Raycatcher review

By Bladetrain3r posted 9th July 2010

I was a tad surprised by Raycatcher, but definitely feel it could use some work. I have no complaints about it's looks (quite a funky art style actually), or even the game play (which is more challenging than it looks; "easy to learn, hard to master" as the saying goes), more with how it feels.

It rather feels like all you're doing is running Winamp in the background and playing a silent game. Regardless of music played, it doesn't seem to make a difference to the game itself; Something like Audiosurf and Beat Hazard are clearly different according to the song you play, but Raycatcher barely gets affected at all regardless.

Also, for some reason it strained my eyes horribly while I played it - possibly the backgrounds (which tend towards the mildly psychedelic) or the effect of trying to track a revolving ball of primary colours AND their corresponding "rays."
