RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum review

This is a great tycoon game, but don't expect to make the roller coaster park of your dreams without investing a lot of time and effort. If you play that way, it may leave you feeling empty and disappointed. There's also some savage bugs which can make you crash or even delete your save files. There might be a patch I couldn't find, but that should be included with the purchase.

Some of the interfacing, pathing, etc, is very buggy. Laying down certain tracks and paths is a nightmare and there are anomalies in how people behave at the park. In my brother's park, we couldn't find out why guests kept only riding on the kids rides and walking around the concession stands in circles.

Great for career mode, not so much for free build as far as I've seen.

This game is difinetly awesome. It bundles all the past expansion and titles into a single game. Fuzz free. Moreover you could build all sorts of coaster rides and water theme park into every scenerio you play. I have already spent more than 80 hours playing this games. Worth every buck you spent.

I have all the rollercoaster games and like this one. RCT2 has only something magical that i liked very much and i miss that in RCT3. But if you like to build a attraction park and want a very addictional game buy it. it is the money worth!

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 is the first of its series I have played and it was recommended highly to me by other gameplayers. I don't know what previous versions are like, but this one is so-so. It allows you to build custom-made roller coasters, which is very nice. It than lets you ride them, which is probably the most fun part of the game.

The tutorial is only somewhat helpful, but is enough to learn the basics of the game.

The expansions include Soaked! and Wild! The Soaked! expansion is a must-have if you like this game. It add a lot of the water-themed amusement-park options one might expect. The second expansion, Wild!, is harldy worth it in my opinion. It adds decorative elements, but I expected more from an expansion pack. It only has a few options that are way too simplistic. It comes in a bundle, so there isn't much to complain about in that way. And, for the price, it is definitely worth getting the bundle.

My main complaint is in the micromangement of the tiny details of fireworks and music displays, which seems unneccesary, while most of the rides have to placed as-is without much allowance for variation. Finally, the largest park is way too small for a really good roller coaster track, unless that is the only ride you have, and the game goals are really lacking and took the away the fun for me.

I think this game is great for kids and people that enjoy simpler games.

You can do anything you want in this game. You can create your own roller coasters and ride on them. You can put lions amongst your customers, choreograph animal shows or even see through your animals eyes. The possibilities are endless.

Fun fact: You aren't going to find another game in this sub-genre that's better than RollerCoaster Tycoon 3. Granted there aren't too many of them out there, regardless this is still an excellent game. In career mode you're going to get dozens of scenarios which progress in difficulty as you unlock new ones. The amount of customization permitted in sandbox mode is more than anything else like it has to offer, giving it endless replay value whenever you feel like building your own theme park. There's also plenty of room to make your own scenarios or download others' from rctgo.

Keep in mind though that the tutorial can't show you everything, so a lot of experimenting may be necessary before you get the hang of everything. I've been playing this for about a month and there is still a lot of things I don't know =) Raising/lowering terrain can also be annoying and water rides love to bug out on me sometimes when creating multiple entrances and exits. So obviously this game is not without its flaws, but they certainly aren't large enough to hinder your enjoyment or creativity in the game.

A lot of people are saying because of this games age, it should be less than a list price of $20. In my honest opinion though, the amount of replay value this game has to offer makes it worth it. I think people are forgetting the major benefit of digital downloads versus finding it in the store or ordering it online. And finally, this game is $25 on Steam...so have fun with that.

What is this "Minecraft" you're talking about...?

When it comes to addicting simulation games, I've yet to find a series that even comes close to Rollercoater Tycoon. While the second installment of the series mainly took the first game and added upon it, RCT3 is a whole new beast, with a new 3D engine and much streamlined and modernized gameplay-mechanics.

While these new additions were incredible and exiting back when the game was released (I mean, you could ride your OWN rollercoasters!), the game hasn't aged incredibly well as opposed to its predecessors. RCT3 has lost a lot of its charm from the first two games. Your parks feel a lot more "static" and your rollercoasters tend to be not as exiting as the ones you build in the first two games. At 19.99, it is hard not to recommend Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 over this game. Don't get me wrong, RCT3 is amazing. It's just not as timeless as the previous games.

A great sandbox game that really allows your imagination to flow onto the screen and into your game. THe missions can be quite dull but the sandbox mode can be really entertaining if you enjoy this kind of game

My kids love this game. My oldest son is 10 and plays this game over a lot of other games and as a father its nice to see my child playing a game that does not include a GUN and some extreme form of violence.

Great game, fabulous graphics on a mac computer with no stuttered frame rate even when building pretty big parks.

Only problem is that the shadows on rides are extremely block-like, easily solved by removing shadows in settings.

I can't say enough about this game. In 2012 it may be getting a bit long in the tooth, but nothing else has come along that does what this does better. Designing coasters in 3d and being able to ride them is a big thrill. There is a lot of content here, kept me entertained for a lot more hours than most games.

For reference, I have windows 7 and it plays perfectly fine for me. The system requirements only say xp/2000 so I wasn't sure if it would work (I'm pretty computer limited)

Game wise. Very happy indeed and can easily spend a whole day distracted by it. Useful tutorial and I managed to get the hang of it which says something. Without it I would have been so lost. Happy with the graphics, I wasn't looking for anything amazing and they do the job nicely.

Do feel like it doesn't take long to complete the top achievement, unless I'm missing something, and don't feel particularly challenged in that respect but it does take a lot of work to build the park up and open up all the rides etc...

Price wise I've seen it a lot cheaper for the CD but I was too impatient and happy to pay the £14.95 for download.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 is a huge step away from the previous game.

It finally has some modern 3D graphics. There's a lot more information given about the park and guests, so you can really feel like the owner. The expanded options, adds a lot more to content so there's always more to come back to and play. Despite this game being pretty old now, I still find the graphics to be okay. All the little animations placed in, really makes it feel alive. This also comes with the added expansion packs, worth every penny. There's lots of good things to say about this game, I do have a few small negative things though.

My only negative issues with this game, is the menus / GUI's. They're set up to be rather over complicated. My next issue is with roller coasters or big rides, instead of clicking the ride and then choosing from already built rides or creating your own, you automatically have to start building it on your own, unless it has a folder icon. This would be a cool feature for creative people, but I liked the pre-built ones.

Anywho, 4/5 for a really great game. Definitely worth the money.

Love the game. So many new fun features, so many new rides. If you liked the previous roller coaster titles, you gotta have this one.

This platinum edition allows you to build water parks inside your amusement park! You can build pool and all kinds of water rides and slides.

I haven't experienced much with the zoo part of the game, but I intend to, as it looks rather cool.

Very enjoyable game. Lots of options. Wish there were more good options for those of us who love sim building games. Glad I decided to trying RCT3. Played for about 20 hours in the first three days I owned it.

This one despite being not so "new" is still an enjoyable one. The graphics might not be amazing even in the highest quality but it is pretty enough for the fun it provides. For all who like the "tycoon" series and micro-macro management games, this one is a must have option. There is nearly an infinite gamma of options and things you can do in this game and sometimes just sitting in your newly added ride and feel the thrill of it makes you enjoy this good game. In the campaigns, you get a series of missions usually none of them "small" since there are 3 levels of completion, or should I say acomplishment? Anyway, you can strive for the best of every mission or just do the basics requirements, like having X numbers of guests in your park, reaching a certain park value, pleasing VIPs, etc... and go on for the next mission. I am, personally, a 100% full completion game maniac and I pursue no less than maximum victory so I take the longer path and, believe me, even so I do not get bored with this game because it have so many options that keep me occupied for a long time. That said, get your copy now and "ride" in this adventure right away! :)

One of those rare games I've bought a second time. Its older than some of the amusement park tycoon style games, but in my books its still the best. A bit more focused on realism compared to a lot of games in the genre, while being well conceived and balanced, your imagination is pretty much the limit on what you can make with all the set pieces and world shaping tools. There might be better games in the genre if you want to plop down pre-built set pieces and run around in first person, but if you enjoy sculpting a detailed park, well get this game. The aesthetics generally make up for older graphic technology, so it still looks good. If I had a minor gripe, its that the expansions bundled in tended to be very slightly unbalanced when playing the main game from the amounts of income and peeps it attracted, but its a small issue. Long game, lots of fun, again I'd recommend highly if you like tycoon style games or amusement parks in general.

RCT3 is a great improvement over the previous versions -- nothing important has been removed, nothing too boring has been added. The fun stays the same, but the game has the potential to last longer, I would say. Also, the visuals have been improved (most screenshots don't do the game justice, because they usually show off the scenery when zoomed in to the maximum).

Both the datadisks (Soaked and Wild) offer new ways of attracting guests to your park, and add to the overall great feeling of creating a theme park of your dreams.
