In Red Faction, players find themselves in the middle of a rebellion on the hostile surface of Mars fighting for their freedom against the evil Ultor Corporation. Featuring a sophisticated physics engine, five fully controllable vehicles, a variety of unique natural environments, and Volition's proprietary Geo-Mod Technology, Red Faction is one of the most advanced second-generation titles ever released for the PlayStation 2. Geo-Mod technology supports the real time, arbitrary modification of the geometry that makes up the game’s environment. This means that players have the full ability to destroy whatever they want. Just point a weapon at an object or structure and shoot -- total destruction always follows.

Red Faction review
This game is right up there with Half Life. Although this is the first game in the franchise its certainly still one of the best even by todays standards. This is a classic and I had no problems installing and running it on my Windows 7 64bit.
Red Faction review and savegame solution.
Red Faction is a pretty good FPS in both single player and multiplayer modes.
PROS:
Decent (dated, yet effective) production values
Great single player
Good multiplayer
LOW hardware requirements (a PC built in 1998, or even a netbook can run RF)
Cool sci-fi mythos that're a bit allegorical of real world issues
NOTE: There's an issues with savegames. Run Red Faction "as administrator" in order to enable saving your game. Better still, open "Properties" and select "Compatibility". Then, select "Run this program as administrator" under Privilege Level. It'll keep you from having to jump thru hoops later. :)
Red Faction review
An FPS which feels very Total Recall like. A large amount of fighting goes on, some destructible environments, some thinking parts, plenty of action in general and a good light story. The graphics haven't aged too well, but it is still good to look at and even more, to play. If you like FPS games with sci-fi elements, it's a must.
Red Faction review
When Red Faction, first burst on the scene it was a quite revolutionary game with top notched graphics. The story line was fresh and unique, and even now it still has a very good story for the present times. The graphics engine is now quite dated, but it is still adequate and does not detract from gameplay, which is really the strong point of this game. This game, the first in the series, is the best of the series. If you really want to know what all the fuss about the Red Faction series was about...this is the one to get. At this price you are getting a steal.
Red Faction review
The Red Faction series is one of the best game series ever made. Although this game has very out dated graphics this is a classic game that everyone should try at least once.
Red Faction review
Start as miner, end as victorious Mars rebelious miner. Fight with variety of weapons, blast through walls and doors, fight with nano-mutants, dismantle combat Mars-Robo-Destroyer MK II and evade mercenaries. All of this (and even more) in one game. How cool is that?
Red Faction review
What starts out as a fairly average shooter (for its time) with an interesting gimmick in the form of the geomod destructible terrain slowly but surely degenerates into a very boring corridor shooter where you're faced with enemies armed with one shot one kill rail guns that are incredibly good shots. It gets old. Fast. I completed it more out of stubborn determination than any sense of enjoyment. I can't recommend you do the same.
RF Guerilla or RF Armageddon are vastly superior games.
The best Red Faction. EVER.
I have never played the singleplayer through, though I know that this is one of the best First Person Shooters ever made and the absolutely best Red Faction (though Guerrilla wasn't bad).
When it originally got released in 2001 I LOVED to play the multiplayer in LAN ... and I still do now. The graphics were top-notch when it got released and the so called GEO-MOD engine was revolutionary (It isn't as realistic as the version used in Guerrilla though I like the implentation here better)
You also can apply all the Community made patches like Pure Faction because it's DRM-Free here.
GO GET THIS GAME. DO IT. DO IT NOW.
Red Faction > Red Faction: Guerrilla > Red Faction: Armageddon > Red Faction 2
Very Good.

Red Faction review: still fighting
RF is still one old gold title that does not fail to entertain, in the good way. There is so much variation in level and weapons design that make RF really worthwhile! Even the Enemie´s AI can hold up to some more recent titles. The Year 2000 Graphics show their age but that does not matter, since the gameplay and atmosphere are so spot on. And onther plus for the DRM Free GamersGate version is that the RF Commmunity patches, that make the game work on recent computer, can be applied to this game.
But it has some flaws that should be mentioned. Though the Enemy AI is good, it´s a bit too much aware of your presence. Esp. in later levels, when you get you x-ray weapon. So be prepaired to some heavy save & reload tactics. The "end game" is just stupid, since it´s only a timed random logic puzzle you have to solve. And on higher difficulty levels you have a severe ammo problem.
But don´t let this distract you. RF is a really great game, still.
So, if you liked the RF1 DON`T get Red Faction 2. RF2 will dissapoint you in every way! For me this is among the Top 5 most stupid games in the Year 2000 decade. Get Red Faction Guerilla instead. RF:G is SO MUCH FUN!
Red Faction review
Yes, you might rate Red Fraction a blast from the past and Graphics and Resolution have come a long way, since it was made.
But this game is worth its price, due to the amount of play time, countless scenario’s, a multitude of Area’s and Locations and Plenty of things to shoot, kill, blow up and a Good and Interesting Story Line.
The Game plays very well on Vista and has a load of options for customizing your Game Style of Playing.
Actually it’s superior to later sequels.
This is one game I think you’ll play till the end and what a surprise that is.
Red Faction review
One warning: Red Faction graphics have aged. I don't really care about the levels which are fine and well designed. The characters however are quite cubic and not very pretty to see.
Red Faction is a good and very enjoyable FPS. The weapons are varied and not too powerful, the enemies IA is OK (they hide, they flee, they attack: they don't rush towards us).
I must admit that the GeoMod is more a marketing point than anything because it is not that much of an use during the game except at the very beginning and at some points later (but not that often).
Red Faction review
This is a FPS where it's set on mining systems and facilities on Mars. Story isn't that remarkable compared to others that focused on them.
Geo-mod technology allows you to destroy rocks, walls and pillars with explosives, giving fun and interesting options and actions on most scenes.
Storyline is weak, but game flow is good and may keep you hooked on it to the end.
Weapons and Vehicles are varied, I personally liked the Rail Driver(Railgun that has thermo-visionish scope and hits enemies through walls).
Enemy AI is above average, though they have weird behaivor that enemies run saying "I Surrender", then turn back and shoot you(and vise versa).
Combat is rather easy at Normal difficulty, since enemies drop LOTS of health and armors.
Other than that, it's a regular FPS, with Stealth and Combat mixed.
I personally recommend this game if you want a short(10-15 hours) FPS with lots of things break.
Red Faction review
A serviceable FPS that doesn't use its GeoMod gimmick enough for it to warrant a special attention. It is good, solid fun however and easily worth €5. If your time is more precious however, you might want to look elsewhere, especially considering the latter third of the game where the difficulty spikes dramatically due to enemies that can one-shot kill you with their Railguns.
Red Faction review
Although an old game, I'm really enjoying it. It has some story to guide you, but still, it's really fast paced. The Geo-mod engine is a big plus! It's really nice to dig holes in the walls using missiles. If you enjoy FPS games, it is a must buy!
Red Faction review
While this is most definitely an older game it's still quite fun. For an FPS the story is decent, while urgent enough to keep you moving at a steady pace. For as old as it is, the game is rather complex, with the ability to blow holes in walls, be recognized by and destroy security systems, etc.
For newer computers with anything over, say, an 8xxx graphics card, be sure that you turn VSync on. The physics engine will give you difficulties if you don't. Also, if you find that if the game is not allowing you to save (Something about it not finding the savegame folder), download and install PureFaction. It's a mod for Red Faction, but it allows Red Faction to run better on newer computers.
