Red Faction 2 and how to run it!

By nate122275 posted 28th October 2012

Red Faction 2 (PC/PS2/original Xbox/Gamecube) is the follow up to the pretty cool Red Faction.

PROS:

Decent story (not quite as good as RF)

Good single player (including bots for multi)

LOW hardware requirements! Like the first RF, RF2 can be run on an old Pentium 2 PC from 1999 or even a netbook!

Cheap, at only $10.

CONS:

Story ain't as good as the first RF.

Unless you can find someone running a server or hosting a LAN party, there's no muliplayer aside from bot matches. Thankfully, the bot matches (DM, TDM, CTF, etc...) are still fun.

Issues with Vista and Windows 7 -but...*there's a fix*

*To run Red Faction 2 on Windows 7, select the rf2 application in its folder and "send to desktop (create a shortcut)". The first time you attempt to run it, it'll give you some flack about going to setup. But, after that initial hang up, it'll run just fine hense forth. There are also patches for RF2 floating around the internet for running it on Vista (I have 7, so I haven't needed them).

Upgraded version of previous great game. This time you're rebel still - but with squad. Descent into martian mines, tunnels and dungeons once more! Plus hunt evil tyrant. Don't forget to grab some super weapons on your way down. Blast through doors... or around them.

The Red Faction series is one of the best game series ever made. As the second game in the series the creators did not fail to improve on the original yet keep it true to it's original.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that this game is actually decent. It isn't catastrophic, but it certainly doesn't live up to its predecessor. In short it is a game for fans of the first Red Faction that just wants more of the same action, but with less functions. It worked for me, but as I said, it might not be everyone's cup of tea. And if you haven't played the first one, then for the love of god, play it first! You won't regret it.

RF2 is a horrible followup to the great RF. Gameplay is rediculous, I can't believe I wasted $2.50 on this... After probably a solid 45min of trying to get past the "8mb Video Error" and finally after searching dozens of pages found a fix for it... loaded into the game... and it's lame. So... save your money and buy something better... like UNREAL :D

A Sequel to the destructive FPS, but Story and things are not really connected with Red Faction 1. It first released on PS2, later ported to Xbox(not 360!)/PC/GC. Gameplay's pretty much the same, with more actions and better Vehicles of total destruction. but it's got shorter gameplay and weaker AI, plus NO Multiplayer. The biggest problem in this one is Geo-mod is less important in RF2, thus I had to rate it lower than RF1. I don't really recommend playing it, but $9.95 is a good price to think between play or pass.
