Rome Total War Alexander

By seanstewart08 posted 5th May

The campaign lacks the versatility of the original game and the first expansion, Barbarian Invasion, because the player can only play the campaign as the Macedonians - Alexander's faction. This campaign is entertaining in itself, however, and it is quite difficult as you are expected to conquer a very large empire in a very short time. The best part of Alexander is the mods, although these are not nearly as plentiful as they are for Rome or Barbarian Invasion.

Only buy Alexander if, like me, you are passionate about the Total War series. It's only $5 anyway.

Get this. Not only for its own sake- a very fun and fast paced simulation of Alexander's conquests-but also to be able to play all the mods out for Rome Total War that now mostly require the Alexander Expansion.

A decent enough add on. It's very short and very narrow in focus. The multiplayer for this add-on is also nearly dead. It's good but not good enough to recommend paying extra for.

Seems pretty interesting at first. Super repetitive though. It's not a game that allows you to really build armies or buildings. You get to push a button and its automatically there. It's more of a management-type game.

Definately a must if you want to have the complete online gaming experience, since most of the MODs and online gamers use this expansion to play. Also a very challenging game for solo gaming.

The game is fairly good for an expansion, has some new interesting content and for such price i believe it's not really that bad, it has some fixes and improvements too since the original RTW

Overall : 8/10

Its not the greatest expansion by any means, yet all Total War games, and Rome ones in particular, have something special about them that always make them worth playing. The campaign is not the best suited to Rome Total War, but the battle mechanics are brilliant as always. It is definately worth buying but is not likely to hold your attention for an extended period of time.

Although the expansion itself is not altogether great, it's what it brings with it that makes this a worthwhile buy. The improved engine upgrades will let you play the game better, as well as allowing you to enjoy a greater range of what really makes Rome great: the mods. For such a good price, this expansion pack is a must buy for the Total War fanatic.

The campaign in Alexander is good, but not great, and while the new units and cut scenes add value, this is but a small expansion to the original.

If you're buying Rome: Total War, and the Alexander bundle is only slightly more expensive, I'd recommend picking it up. However, if you've finished Rome and want more, I'd recommend moving on to another era of Total War.

Excellent game, maybe around a ten hours campaign. A lot of mods for the Total war series as always. The price is okay for such a good game. The best pat of the game is as in all Total war games the battle field battles. They are fantastic, and you get access to a lot of new units. You are also forced to use these new unit in order to win the campaign. The Campaign is on time, you need to do it before Alexander dies. Use his awesome Macedonian armies to conquer the world.

Another classic Total War game that I'm glad I added to my collection. Picked up the original game back around the time it came out, and when I got my hands on this, I was very excited. I cam into the game expecting a lot from it, but I couldn't help thinking that I would be bored with it, having played the original and its expansion. I was very wrong, and instead I couldn't help myself from coming back to this game again and again, day after day. This game is great, and deserves to be a part of every gamer's collection, at least those who appreciate games. Pick it up.

Alexander is a nice expansion to rome total war, where you play as the ancient conqueror of the world. The campaign is pretty challenging up until some point of the game. Basically, you have to conquer a set number of provinces in a set number of turns, outnumbered and unable to replentish your troops properly (due to the turn limit). So you have to deliver a blitzkrieg approach - conquer and move on. The only problem is that once you get past Babylon, things are not that all challenging anymore. Overall, I recommend it.

I view Alexander differently than other reviews do. Total War games are great! This one stands out for me. The games graphics and play are the same with one important difference. This one cuts you no slack. You want to make an empire? This is not your game. This games makes you conquer for your empire. Yes, the map is small. But, the play is fast and you have no time to make anything other than TOTAL WAR!

An interesting view of the Great Alexander campaign to Asia. Has a smart time-turn limit as Gr.Alexander manager to reach India in less than 20 years conquering everything in the meantime (didn't conquer India even though he won their king as everyone who dare to face him). This game misses some things though. Because of its age and the low ability of hardware back it has a very low limit in number of units in battle compared to true numbers. Battle of Gavgamela had 1 million of Persian army facing 50000 Greeks (guess who won). The game's sim of this battle has at most 3500 units as a total. So, not as great a game as the Great Alexander deserved. Must have got published 3-4 years later to have the ability to make it deserving of his name in battle scale too. Nevertheless an interesting game with new ideas when published as every TW game.

The expansion pack for the Rome: Total War game is a decent product, but definately not as big as the Barbarian Invasion expansion. Players can take control of one of the best generals of all time, Alexander the Great. This expansion gives you only 4 factions to play with, which of course of the battles in that region, it is still a let down. Nevertheless, the game is great, the graphics and sound are still great. This expansion gives also the Battle Tournament mode, which makes a series of battles, revealing the champion at the end. I rate it 4/5, only because of the lack of options I would expect, but still a decent expansion.

The game holds all the features of Rome TW and is pretty much just a mod the angle is to as fast as possible gain control of a number of key provinces well its a good game but Ill prefer Rome TW and Rome TW Barbarian. have fun

Sadly, the only recommendation for this expansion pack that I can make is that it offers some slight improvements to the overall stability of the game and to the AI's performance over the original Rome:Total War and the Barbarian expansion.

Othwerwise this expansion offers very little 'new' - one historical battle, few custom maps and a campaign which is not particularly satisfying to play.

For its current price, it's worth picking this up for the .exe to play some of the mods available for the Rome:Total War series.

What would be another name for Alexander? That would be the name: horrible. This game has very limited everything. Very few maps for custom battles, only a few historical battles, and not many factions for choice. But, just the same as all the other total war games, the strategy and attention to detail accelerates this game to the same level as the original Rome: Total War.

3/5

Its very interesting to play Alexander the Great expansion even they said its not so many turns to make,

but this is what gives to this expansion something different bcs is very close to real story of Alexander that he made everything in about 10 years. So in the end if you make something similar you can feel even you, how Great Alexander was.Apart this AI behaves more cleaver and makes the game real challance..

An rather interesting little expansion. Gives you the fine opportunity to play as alexander and to check if you got the mindset of an real conqueror.

It will definitely work for the ones of you out there who enjoyed the previous games in the series and the price is´t too punitive either.

A rather annoying little thing that happened to me was that Alexander walked right into a persian city that was plagued and died the following turn.

Overall the expansion was fun to play, but it´s not very big and would´t do it for somebody looking for something big
