This game is rubbish. You start the game and ask for a tutorial, it just dumps you into a menu screen. No matter what you press, nothing happens. Games should guide new players and let you get into the game. This game is just a mess.

Go straight to Space Rangers 2 and do not pass go or collect $50. A OK game but why sink time into this space trading sim when your hours should be spent on its sequel. For completionists only.

a terrible game that is constant a repeat of actions. You buy, you sell. a few missions. and repeat.

Enemies are difficult to destroy because they keep going back to a planet and repair themselfs.

It can keep me satisfied for only a few houres, and after that there is no fun in this game.

While the obvious choice is to go straight to Space Rangers 2 as it's basically a refined version of this game, one shouldn't overlook this one either. It has less of everything and doesn't have RTS style land combat but that can be a plus if you just want to concentrate on the space combat anyway and don't want to be overwhelmed. The plot also sets up the world better for the second game, so it's worth playing through this just for that alone. Either play them chronologically or play Space Rangers 2 Reboot and then this for more fun.

There is a lot of fun exploring the space and meeting all sort of weird races. At its core it is actually a RPG/Space simulation. However, it replace the space ship battle you usually find in other like X-series with RTS battle. The gameplay is still fun, but it lacks the eye candy other space sims provide.

The core of Space Rangers is quite simple. You have a little spaceship which you fly around in, blowing stuff up and selling goods to the highest bidder. But during your merry dallying, a great threat arises, and you, of course, have to destroy it.

Unfortunately, the game just isn't very interesting in terms of pure gameplay, as it simply takes place on an, albeit pretty, flat background where you aimlessly fly around, occasionally reading some samey dialogue.

However, the game does deserve some credit for its intriguing adventure/RPG sections, in which the player goes through a text adventure, and has to sometimes take some major decisions.

For example, I once encountered a strange riddle while landing on a planet. It was the standard "in which order do the [blanks] get over the river?" riddle, but the backstory was quite interesting. I failed miserably, and never got to retry it. In a strange way, that merely enhanced the experience.

Also, I was once imprisoned, and had to try to survive for a year behind bars. I did not.

These little adventures only constitute a fraction of the game, however, so do not purchase it on that basis alone.

Fun, but somewhat bare-bones. If you're jonesing to fly around the universe running missions and making money, it'll work, as sort of a variation of Pirates! set in space. That said, there are enough "real" space sim trading games on this site that I'm not sure who this will appeal to, besides those who don't want to learn to navigate the 3rd dimension. This is much more of a casual experience for people who don't want to get immersed in a universe.

Not a bad game for the price. it will give you hours of entertainment but will get boring from doing the same type of thing over and over like most games.
