GAME SUMMARY

Supreme Commander

Rating: 4.5 (631 votes cast)

For a thousand years, three opposing forces have waged war for what they believe is true. There can be no room for compromise: Their way is the only way. Dubbed The Infinite War, this devastating conflict has taken its toll on a once peaceful galaxy and has only served to deepen the hatred between the factions.

After centuries of struggle, the battle for supremacy has at last reached a turning point. Under your strategic command and leadership, only one faction will reign supreme. Will you be victorious and elevate your race to domination? Or will you lead them into the hell of defeat and ultimate extinction?

Delivering one of the most advanced and innovative features of any RTS game, Supreme Commander establishes a breathtaking new standard for sheer scope and scale of gameplay. Massive battles unfold across maps of unparalleled size and scope and thousands of units fight to the bitter end.

  • Scale: Witness tiny assault bots get crushed underfoot by towering mega units, or watch as smaller attack bombers try in desperation to bring down a gigantic experimental unit.
  • Scope: Concentrate on individual ground battles or zoom all the way out in a single, seamless motion that reveals the full theatre of war. Plan and unleash multiple strategic attacks from this strategic vantage point.
  • Dominate your enemies by coordinating strategic ground, naval and air attacks. Initiate a crippling air strike with your attack bombers and support them with a ground assault of heavy and light artillery that demolish the opposing faction's main base. Exterminate your foes once and for all by sinking their aircraft carriers with a surprise submarine attack

A typical rts game with typical mechanics but the scale of the battles is absolutely huge

If you like control in huge armies and watch epic battles you will enjoy this game immensely.

Sally the capine is a bit repetitive, but the story at least have some what enjoyable

As a remake of Total Annihilation this game brings updated graphics to the RTS series. With the potential for pitched battles involving numerous ground, air and naval units this game offers a lot of destructive eye candy for the RTS player.

A few criticisms I have found with the series, large maps/missions and skirmishes often mean it is only too easy to mis-manage the development of your base or unit assaults as there is often too much going on at once and players become distracted.

Mission creep is an integral part of the Campaign mode. Every mission expands (both in the map size and mission objectives) as you meet your initial objectives and unless you over-prepare for each objective you can find yourself overhwelmed when the mission changes.

Lastly, the Steam version sold here doesn't allow you to install the patches, resulting in the player missing out on a number of mods for the skirmish mode allowing you to customise the max tech level, available unit types, super weapons etc etc

Despite it's flaws I would recommend this to any RTS fan and especially anyone who has played the original Total Annihilation

Supreme Real-time Strategy

By Fred_DM posted 9th January

Supreme Commander is a classic real-time strategy game. Base building, resource gathering and management, technology research and unit construction - it's all here. Where it deviates from genre standards is in sheer scale: there may be hundreds of units on-screen in large battles and towering giants may easily squash the smaller units with their left foot. The only downside are the slightly sterile looking graphics.

Purchase if you like traditional real-time strategy and if you prefer large-scale mass battles to small-scale squad-based combat.

Reminds me of Star Craft 1. Problem was, I didn't get addicted like I did with Star Craft.

The one thing I did like that Star Craft did not have, infinite resources from a single source.

The on the same hand is the difficulty of this game. You can only hold a small amount of resources. This forces you to be able to create enough resources to build. You can not really save up resources, it is more of you use the resource as you get it.

Ex: you generate 100 power/second. You also have 4 things being built which use 150 power/second. All four items will be slowed down to 2/3 (or 100/150) speed when producing.

Think that one minor change, otherwise very very similar to Star Craft.

Supreme commander is complex and this finely tuned game. It delivers a monster of an RTS, and despite how long it may be before you fully understand its intricacies, it's a surprisingly addictive game. The strategic zoom and base automation are so intuitive and helpful, it makes many other RTS games seem confining and simplistic.

If you're a casual strategy fan, you're truly missing out if you pass this one by.

Supreme Commander, like its spiritual predecessor, begins with the player solely possessing a single, irreplaceable construction unit called the "Armored Command Unit," or ACU, the titular Supreme Commander. Normally the loss of this unit results in the loss of the game (Skirmish missions can be set for a variety of victory conditions). These mech suits are designed to be transported through quantum gateways across the galaxy and contain all the materials and blueprints necessary to create a 37th century army from a planet's native resources in hours. All standard units except Commanders and summoned Support Commanders (sACU) are self-sufficient robots.

The game has mediocre graphics and it doesn't always have the best AI, but the reason you should but this is the scale. you can have 1000 units per person at any single time which causes massive battles. the only downside is that micromanaging your units becomes hard when you have this many. Their are 3 different campaigns they each take about 7-10 hours to finish and are pretty fun. The 3 factions are for the most part pretty well balanced. The game is good and would recommend it.

I'm not exactly a RTS fan but features like proper unzoom and queueing make it really pleasant to play. That plus the big robots, the management of streams of resources and nukes made this game incredibly fun to play for me.

Supreme Commander is one of my favorite RTS games, I have spent hours playing this game with or against friends in multiplayer. The game features massive battles with good amount of units available - tanks, shields, planes, boats, artillery and also some very tough experimental units. SP might lack a bit of story, but it shouldn't hurt the overall game experience. Get ready to gather the resources, build up your army and smash the opponent.

At the start, I was all confused and wasn't sure how this game worked.

But after playing a while (and asking for help from friends), the game became really fun.

It all about the Mass. Massive amount of units.

If you love huge battles and awesome end-game units. This is the game.

The long wait is over. Fans of Total Annihilation have finally been looked after with a godly successor to that classic. Graphics are crisp if a little basic, but that all gives the game a timeless look which coupled with the great animations and ability to render hundreds or more units on screen at any time makes the game seem current and capable no matter the era. Campaign is a little dry, but has a great selection of attacking and defending scenarios, ready to challenge the turtler or the rusher in you. Masses of units to research and unlike in TA which degenerated into a race for the super weapon, in this game even the lower tier units keep their usefulness up to a point even when you research higher tier units. Great game.

Great Real Time Strategy game with big robots and lots of units.

This is what an rts should be about commanding large armies across large battlefields.

Graphics are really good and music is excellent and suits the ganmeplay.

It does take a wee while to get into but once play begins it has a good storyline and a lot of action to keep you going through the game story.

This isn 't just your ordinary RTS: this is grand scale real time strategy. In contrast to Starcraft or Command and Conquer, you won't be done very quickly when you start a match. I've played it many times in multiplayer, and each match took a few hours to complete. Hundreds of tanks, aircrafts and ships on my side against an equal amount with each of the opponents: this is battling on a massive scale.

This game is a lot of fun if you like to control a LARGE number of troops. It's a RTS on a massive scale. The graphic part of the game is a little bit weird, the 3d objects don't "behave" as you would expect, but all in all, this game provides some serious strategy and is worth buying.

Probably the best RTS in years. This successor to Total Annihilation is everything I wanted it to be. TA with updated graphics, a different story and new units.

One of the best strategy games out there, it's hard, unfurgiving, and brilliant, SupComm 2 is such a lame game compared to this one. Be sure to check al least some vids on you tube before buying it because it has a unique playability.

this is a relay great Real time strategy the second one is good but you don't need to think to much which make that its own great game but i think this makes you think more about mass and power what to build first and what you can leave to the last minit i like where you can upgrade your base which gives you better and stronger units and with new tech levels the new builds a great

This game is pretty damned cool, you can have about a billion units on screen at one time and murder everything with giant artillery or nukes or play the game pretty much any way you please with the three factions available because they're all completely different and play completely differently.

Buy this game now if you like RTSs, you won't regret it.

There are many RTS games out there. Starcraft 2, Dawn of War series, Company of Heroes, and Command&Conquer series to just name a few. "Why should I get this?", you might ask. Well, if you prefer a RTS game that focuses on micro/tactics rather than macro/strategy, then this game isn't for you. But, if you like the idea of commanding hundreds of units on a HUGE map, you will definitely love this.

Beware: this game has a pretty big learning curve. Not only are there tons of units and buildings to get yourselves familiarised with, but this game's economy is quite unique and a bit difficult to manage until you get a hang of it.

Conclusion:

Story: N/A (I haven't played the campaign yet and I probably never will.)

Gameplay: 5/5 (Hundreds of units on huge maps. Every unit can be countered, even nukes!)

Graphics: 4/5 (It's not as pretty as, say, Dawn of War 2 or Starcraft 2, but it still looks pretty good in 2011.)

Audio: 3/5 (Great music, but sounds of explosions and gunfire aren't particularly great. They aren't bad though.)

System Requirement: You'll need a powerful PC if you want to play on the largest maps with max pop cap.

Lastly, do yourselves a favour and buy Forged Alliance! You'll get another faction to play and FA has better UI.

Very deep macro RTS pretty much sums up Supreme Commander. Battles are on a massive scale, with literally hundreds of tanks aircraft mechs and other instruments of war bombarding the crap out of each other. There is a simple yet very in-depth economy system that is vital to maintain these massive forces. This is one of the more challenging yet rewarding RTS games out there.

I played Supreme Commander 2 before this one and was amazed at the differences. This one feels more like the sequel. With more units more advanced economy and much larger scale this isn't a game for the faint of heart. As many missions can take hours to beat. Definitely take a look if you're a fan of the genre and haven't played it yet.

Overall not a bad game, if you have ever played the classic Total Anhilliation this game is of the same blood, build big armies and crush your foes, though the stragety is more in management of your resources and base rather then control of the army.

The campaign is a bit lackluster, but this is more for those who love watching massive armies smash into each other, and the music is paired quite well with it.
