Wildlife Park Tycoon review - underwhelming

By IrishHand posted 10th July 2012

Was hoping for a newer, better Zoo Tycoon 2...but Wildlife Park Tycoon is an inferior game. Clumsy interface, unclear objectives, micromanagement of individual plants (who thought this would be a good idea? it's a zoo game, not a plant game). I really wanted to enjoy this game, but I never got there.

Wildlife Park Tycoon review

First of all, this game is a pc hog. I can run almost every other game out there on high and still have some room to spare. But this game lags like nobodies business. With that being said, It's probably the best looking animal park game in existence with lots of customization options that are fun to play around with. Fences, buildings, and most decorations can be customized with preset graphic patterns that adds to the experience.

The animals themselves are all the standard animals you would expect from a zoo game, but the difference here is that they look absolutely amazing. With animation and fur effects only seen in games like Kinectimals for the Xbox 360. I remember being blown away by the fact that babies will suckle their mothers, you'll witness mating behavior and other realistic behaviors as well. It's pretty cool.

The foliage and trees in this game are also quite beautiful. Also some of the best representations I've seen in a game like this. They come from their respective categories also shared by the animal categories of Polar, SubTropical, Temperate and Tropical.

Keepers, garbage men, vets and gardeners make up the staff members that you can hire to keep things in order and the guests look pretty good as well. Only problem is they're rather stupid, wanting something to drink when there's a water stall right across the path from them.

This game would've gotten a 5 star review from me but there are issues with the game that just can't be ignored. For one, it's kind of hard to please the guests of the park. Something else that seems stupid for them to even include is the fact that the plants require almost as much attention as the animals in your park. "This ground is much too hard", or "This ground is much too dry", etc. Can get old pretty quickly as caring for plants can get tedious and boring.

Anyway, just check out the demo. It's pretty good at giving you an idea of what to expect from the full game.
