Stand-alone expansion for XII Century: Death or Glory

By Fred_DM posted 9th January

Blood of Europe is basically a mission pack for the original XII Century: Death or Glory, but doesn't require the base game to run. Blood of Europe provides you a small number of additional battle scenarios all focusing on medieval Russian history. There is no nation selection or any other strategic element, just a number of loosely connected real-time battles.

The game runs fine on W7x64 and can be played in resolutions up to 1920x1080.

The idea of Total War games, however poorly executed. The battles are boring and require minimal tactics to win, moreover they are really chaotic and doesn't seem realistic at all. There are far better games than this one and if you want a Total War battles... you'd probably be better off buying Total War game.

The gameplay is roughly the same as what you would find in the previous XIII Century game. If you didn't like that one, this isn't going to change your mind. If you did, however, Blood of Europe adds I think around 8 more battle scenarios. They aren't quite as quick to finish as some of the missions in the first, so that's not quite as bad as it sounds. If you liked XIII you will enjoy this, though I'd personally wait for a sale.

It is fun, like the previous XIII Century, but it is also better looking. The graphical aspect of the game has improved and historical details are good enough to enjoy.

Go for it if you like the XIII titles.

A good small game with much in common with the Total War series. Everything about this game is decent and it isn't frustrating to play. I recommend this game to anyone with an interest in strategy and knights.

The description of this is not correct, being for the 'Gold' version of the game. This game does not have the 30 other missions, but only the 8 that are inherent in this expansion. While that may not seem like much, the 8 mission campaign(being a series of linked battles with a persistent army) is actually quite lengthy and challenging. Get it on sale or in a package with the other game in the series though.

This game is pretty much like death or glory except maybe a little shorter, i would only recommend getting it in a pack with something else or on sale.

Game offers 8 historical battles covering one campaign. There is no grand strategy; there is only historical battles to fight.

This is still a challenging game as the sequel. Also brings a few gameplay changes like units upgrading, fog of war etc.

Like the sequel, Death or Glory, this one is aimed at strategy gamers and history buffs.

Only recommended to get if you get the Gold Pack or really liked XIII Century.

Blood of Europe adds several more battle scenarios to play through, although it is not nearly as many as the original game contained. The same complaints of the orginal game can be leveled against Blood of Europe; namely the production values are a bit on the low side, and not much has improved in that regard.

I did not expect to like this game but it turned out to be a hidden gem. A great selection of units and some nice settings make this a nice game.

XIII Century: Blood of Europe is a decent game but when it's bought outside of the gold pack on Gamersgate, it seems like it's not worth the money. That is for people who enjoy the single-player at least (I haven't tested multiplayer).

I'm not sure why it says about a big world map in the description or eight campaigns. All I can access in the game is one campaign comprised of eight battles. Admittedly, the campaign has a few improvements with you being to keep a few units from battle to battle and upgrade them etc. Also, there are new effects present.

The good news is that while there may only be eight battles in the single-player portion (compared to around twenty campaign battles and five bonus battles in the original), the game is still challenging.

So, I can only recommend people interested in the game, who don't have prior knowledge of the series, buy the gold pack. Plus the gold pack is the same price as Blood of Europe, which sees you get this expansion plus the original. Of course, if you've already played Death or Glory, then you pretty much know what to expect and it's up to you whether you wish to pay for eight extra battles or not (again, if you like singleplay as I haven't tested the multiplayer).
