Tibor: Tales of a Kind Vampire review

By googoogjoob posted 22nd August 2012

A very, very simple run and jump platformer. It has no distinguishing features other than its grotesque protagonist and the surreal cutscenes. Worth playing if you're obsessed with playing every platformer ever, but otherwise, pass on it.

Tibor: Tales of a Kind Vampire review

This game seems broken. I really wanted to like it as a casual platformer, but the controls are just about everywhere.

The soundtrack and the story of the game are pretty good and make up part of its redeeming qualities. However, this does not help the fact that the controls for this game are so broken. The story is about Tibor, a poor painter who gets turned into a vampire by a Countess and subsequently goes on the run and also to find his love, Agnes. The story is narrated by an Eastern European woman, which makes for some pretty authentic story-telling.

However, all that said, the game is broken. It feels like it needed a polish before being published. It really does feel like a beta version. Throughout you have to pick up coins, but when you walk passed them, you only pick up a certain percentage of them, not all of them. Also, it is actually really difficult to impossible to reach some platforms and some coins. Killing enemies by jumping on them is made harder by the fact that the controls to jump are messed up. Most of the time, you'll get killed by enemies because of this. This also means that you'll have a hard time reaching some upper platforms and will also fall off elevators a lot, which means that you will have to start the level over, not at the check point. This can be very frustrating.

I wouldn't say this game is bad overall, just that it's not ready to be released and feels rushed. If the developer's had spent a little more time ironing out bugs and polishing the game, it would have been a nice little adventure to have on your computer.
