64 Bit Compatability?

By MichaelDC89 posted 21st April 2012

When I try to run the installer, I get an error message saying that the file isn't compatible with the 64 bit version of Windows, but I have seen elsewhere that the game should work. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks!

While I don't have the game on Gamersgate I do have it on Steam and it works fine (Win7 64bit) Are you sure it isnt something to do with your hardware or driver problems?

Have you tried compability mods? Setting it to Windows XP SP3 might help. Also you should update your GPU driver and DirectX if they're not the latest builds.

Can you post the exact error message? There seem to be a lot of people having problems installing this game on 64bit windows getting the "is not a valid win32 application". Disabling any CD burning software running in the background seemed to fix this for some people.

It might also be a corrupted file in which case you need to delete the temporary files and download/install the game again with your anti-virus software disabled.

i have the original UK retail release, and it works flawlessly on W7x64. don't know about the GG edition, but the game itself is definitely x64 compatible.

Works fine on W7 64bit, not Gamersgate version but another provider.

Thanks you for the answers. I did try running in compatability mode and as the administrator, neither of which worked. As I have not had trouble with other games, I don't believe that it is a driver issue. I am doing a clean download right now, so I'll report back as to whether it works.

I downloaded the game recently from GG and I had no problem with it. I have Win7x64 as well.

Reporting back. Clean download solved the problem. It is worth noting that during the original download, I was constantly getting "reconnecting to server" messages. I believe that it is a network settings problem, as the fresh download was on a different network, and it worked fine.
