Train Giant Shanghai

Train Giant: Shanghai; Trouble Installing

By vince0018 posted 4th August 2012

Hello
I have owned Train Giant A-Train 9 for awhile, and seeing that the Shanghai DLC had been released, purchased it via Blue Coins.

However after downloading, when the installer starts up a pop up reads:
"english version of main game not found - please reinstall..."
After clicking 'ok' I am then prompted with the standard GG 'download finished' choices of which I chose to keep the downloaded files for later.

I live in Canada, and all my games are in English, including Train Giant.
I have tried uninstalling Train Giant from my computer and re-downloading it from scratch, and installing it in it's default directory. [Program Files(x86)/Train Giant A Train 9/]

Still it insists the game is not installed on my PC.

Does anyone know of a solution to this or something I could try?

Vince

Well I do use Steam, I have more than 400 games on Steam.

But Train Giant isn't available there, and Gamersgate seems to be the easiest place for me to get it.

I'm not here to argue about that though, I just want to get the DLC working.

the dlc here probably isnt compatible with the version you have.

They are both the GG versions, both purchased here.
I have this one:
http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-TGAT9/train-giant-a-train-9
And am attempting to install this DLC:
http://www.gamersgate.com/DLC-TGS/train-giant-shanghai

Both English versions, both downloaded from Gamersgate.
I'm not sure what the compatibility issue could be.
There is an alternate link for Shanghai for the German version. But as I said, the main game I'm using is English, hence I downloaded the English DLC.

Hi vince it sounds like the DLC installer is not seeing that you have the english version installed when it looks in your registry to install. the one thing you could try is to uninstall the game then run a registry cleaner. then reboot your PC then install the game and then try to install the DLC this might help dont realy know but one thing i would do is look in your reg and see if it dose say English for the version you have I dont have the game so i cant tell you were it would be in your registry but you can look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE OR HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software and if this does work then i would say its got to be the DLC its self you might have to redownload it.

I'm gonna try that wasppzxz. But there's something strange. When I attempt to uninstall I get an error message:
"Interner Fehler: Cannot find utCompiledCode record for this version of the uninstaller."
This happens also when manually clicking the 'unins00.exe' in the folder.
I tried manually deleting it (bad i know) and downloading and installing again, but the same thing happens.

Since the game was translated into English, I think that's why there's German in the error code, since GG only has one download for the main game.

yes sounds like that is the german version and hence why you are having some install issue's.

By vince0018 posted 5th August 2012

That would be weird, since the actual game is in English, in-game and everything.
And I only have access to download the English version since I'm in Canada. (+I only know English)
In the config there was a line 'Language=1' I tried changing it to 0 and it made no difference.
Gonna try cleaning the registry, but maybe it only searches in a certain directory. I tried moving the folder to the regular 'Program Files' folder instead of the (x86) one. But it didn't help.

Hmm.
Decided to try installing the German version of Shanghai just to see what happens.
"Deutsche Version des Grundspield nicht gefunden - bitte neu installieren..."
or
"German version of the basic Spield not found - please install new ..."

So basically the same story. Still working on the registry thing.

Well cleaning and repairing the registry didn't work.
Don't know what else to try at this point.

Hi,

After some research I found that the GG version makes no registry entries AT ALL upon installation. That is why it will not uninstall properly and why the expansion does not work.

This as it turns out, is a well know problem with the GG version of TG A-Train 9.

I have had a ticket in for about 5 days now.

Regards

Weird... I take it that the DLC wasn't even tested properly then.
